Sermon:Jesus Christ,the great Physician.
WHY IS JESUS REFERRED TO AS THE GREAT PHYSICIAN?
Jesus' role as the great physician includes offering healing and restoration in the body, mind, and spirit.
Jesus is referred to as the great physician due to His miraculous healings and His ability to heal both physically and spiritually.For Example,Jesus performs numerous physical healings, such as healing the blind (John 9:1-12), casting out demons, curing leprosy, and healing the sick (Matthew 8:16). These miraculous healings demonstrate His divine power and authority over illness and suffering.
Jesus is also seen as offering spiritual healing.For example, He forgives sins (Luke 5:20-24).
Jesus role as the great physician includes restoring people to a right relationship with God.(1 Peter 2:24)
BIBLICAL FOUNDATION OF JESUS AS THE GREAT PHYSICIAN
○God promises to heal His people,and restore them spiritually and physically.
- Jeremiah 30:17,”For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’says the Lord.
○The sun of righteousness is coming with healing in his wings to restore health to all who are sick.
-Malachi 4:2,”But to you who fear my name the sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings..."
○God has the power to heal all things, nothing is too hard for Him.
-Jeremiah 32:17,”Ah,Lord God! Behold,you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm.There is nothing too hard for You.
○Jesus took on our physical and spiritual burdens.
-Matthew 8:17,” He himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.
○God declares Himself as the healer, who can Heal all diseases and afflictions.
-Exodus 15:26,”For I am the Lord who heals you.
○God is able to heal and protect His people from diseases.
-Deuteronomy 7:15,” And the Lord will take away from you all sicknesses,and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt......but will lay them on all those who hate you."
○God heals and delivers through His word.
-Psalm 107:20,” He sent His word and healed them,And delivered them from their destructions.
○God is both the forgiver of sins and the healer of physical and emotional diseases.
-Psalm 103:2-3,”Bless the Lord,O my soul,And forget not all His benefits:who forgives all your inquities ,who heals all your diseases.
○Jesus' sacrifice provides both spiritual and physical healing.
-Isaiah 53:5-6,”But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities;The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,And by His stripes we are healed.
○God's wish is for us to enjoy both physical health and spiritual health.
-John 11,”Beloved,I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health,even as thy soul prospers.
○Jesus is the healer of both physical and spiritual sickness.(Matthew 9:12, Mark 2:17, Luke 5:31-32)
–Mark 2:17,"Those who are well have no need of a physician,but those who are sick.I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners ,to repentance."
○The healing power of Jesus over various physical and spiritual afflictions.
-Matthew 4:24,"Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments,and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics;and He healed them."
○The story of Jesus physically healing the man born blind, demonstrates His power over disabilities.
-John 9:1-7,"Now Jesus passed by,He saw a man who was blind from birth.....And He said to him,Go wash in the pool of Siloam. So he went and washed, and came back seeing."
○Faith-based healing through prayer, invokes God's power to heal.
-James 5:14-15, "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church,and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up."
○Jesus heals a man with leprosy, revealing His compassion and willingness to heal.(Matthew 8:2-3, Mark 1:40-41)
-Matthew 8:2-3,"And behold,a leper came and worshipped Him,saying,"Lord,if you are willing,you can make me clean."Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him saying,"I am willing be cleansed." Immediately His leprosy was cleansed.
○Jesus heals a woman bent over for 18 years, showing His compassion and His authority over physical afflictions.
-Luke 13:11-13,"And behold,there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years,and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up......And He laid His hands on her,and Immediately she was made straight,and glorified God."
○Jesus heals a woman who had been bleeding for 12 years, demonstrating the healing power of faith.
-Mark 5:25-34,"Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years....Daughter ,your faith has made you well."
○Jesus not only healed physical ailments but also exercised His authority over spiritual oppression.
-Matthew 8:16,"When evening had come,they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word,and healed all who were sick."
○Jesus’ sacrificial death offers both spiritual salvation and physical healing.
-1 Peter 2:24,"Who himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree,that we,having died to sins ,might live for righteousness- by whose stripes you were healed."
○The personal touch of Jesus in His healing ministry, demonstrates His care and power to heal.
-Luke 4:40,"When the sun was setting,all those who had any that were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them."
THE HEALING MINISTRY OF JESUS
□Physical healing.:Jesus performed numerous physical healing during his ministry.
Examples of physical healing.
◇Jesus heals a man at the pool of Bethesda(John 5:2-9)
◇Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law sick with fever(Matthew 8:14-15)
◇Jesus cleanses a man with leprosy (Matthew 8:1-4)
◇Jesus heals a man with a withered hand.(Matthew 12:10-13)
◇Jesus heals a woman with an issue of blood(Mark 5:25-34)
◇Jesus heals two blind men(Matthew 9:27-30)
◇Jesus heals a mute man(Matthew 9:32-33)
◇Jesus heals a deaf and mute man(Mark 7:32-35)
◇Jesus heals a man with dropsy(Luke 14:2-4)
◇Jesus heals a woman with a spirit of infirmity for 18 years(Luke 13:11-13)
◇Jesus heals a demon-possessed man(Mark 5:1-20)
□Spiritual healing.
◇Spiritual healing through forgiveness: Jesus heals the soul by offering forgiveness of sins.
Example, the forgiveness of sins in the case of the paralytic.(Matthew 9:2-7) and the story of Zacchaeus(Luke 19:2-10)
-Matthew 9:2b,"Son,be of good cheer;your sins are forgiven you."
-Luke 19:10,"For the son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost."
◇Spiritual healing through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross,where He atones for our sins and offers eternal healing.Jesus' death and resurrection offer spiritual healing and reconciliation with God,overcoming the greatest sickness of all- sin.

THE HEALING TOUCH OF JESUS
○Personal touch:Jesus often healed with a personal touch.
-Matthew 8:3,"Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him,saying,"I am willing;be cleansed. "
-Luke 13:13,"And He laid His hands on her, and Immediately she was made straight,and glorified God."
-Mark 7:33-34,"And He took him aside from the multitude ,and put His fingers in his ears,and He spat and touched his tongue..."
-Mark 1:41,"Then Jesus,moved with compassion,stretched out His hand and touched him,and said to him,"I am willing;be cleansed. "
○The power of His word:Jesus healed with His spoken word.
-Matthew 8:5-13,"Then Jesus said to the centurion,"Go your way;and as you have believed,so let it be done for you."
-John 4:46-53,"Jesus said to him,"Go your way;your son lives."So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him...."
-Luke 7:11-15,"And He said,"Young man ,I say to you,arise."
○The role of faith in healing:Praying in faith for God's healing invokes His power to heal.
-Matthew 9:29-30"Then He touched their eyes,saying,"According to Your faith let it be to you.And their eyes were opened."
-Mark 5:34,"Daughter,your faith has made you well.Go in peace,and be healed of your affliction."
JESUS,OUR HEALER TODAY.
The ongoing ministry of healing continues through the Holy Spirit and the Church.
□Through the Holy Spirit:
◇Empowerment:The Holy Spirit continues to empower believers to minister healing in Jesus' name.The Holy Spirit enables Christians to heal both physical and spiritual sickness.
-Romans 8:11,"But if the spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His spirit who dwells in you. "
◇Spiritual Gifts:Healing is a spiritual gift given by the Holy Spirit. Through this gift, believers can pray for and witness healing in individuals.
-1 Corinthians 12:9,"To another gifts of healings by the same spirit."
◇Guidance and Conviction:The Holy Spirit also convicts individuals of sin, offering spiritual healing and reconciliation with God, and guides believers in ministering God's healing love to others.
-John 16:8,"And when He has come,He will convict the world of sin..."
□Through the Church:
◇Prayers of Faith:The Church continues the healing ministry through prayer.The collective faith and prayers of the Church helps in bringing about physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
-James 5:14-15,"Is anyone among you sick?let him call for the elders of the church,and let them pray over him.....and the prayer of faith will save the sick.."
◇Care and Compassion: The Church, as the body of Christ, provides care and support for those who are hurting. This involves offering counseling, support groups, and pastoral care.
◇Sacramental Healing:Many Christian traditions practice sacramental healing, such as anointing with oil and participating in the Eucharist, where believers experience spiritual healing and renewal through communion with Christ.
-James 5:14,"And let them pray over him,anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord."
TESTIMONY
Several years ago, I found myself lying in a hospital bed, suffering from an illness with an unknown cause. I had lost so much weight and my condition seemed to be deteriorating. Despite numerous medical tests and diagnoses, everything came back normal. When my illness stubbornly resisted medical explanations and treatments, I turned to prayer. Through God's miraculous healing power, I experienced an incredible transformation. The very next day, I was able to stand up and walk, even with swollen feet, leaving the doctors astonished at the unexpected recovery.
ENCOURAGEMENT
No matter what you may be facing whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual sickness know that Jesus is always near, ready to heal and restore.
He is the great physician, the one who heals all manner of affliction, and His love for you is unshakable.As believers, we are called to approach Him with unwavering faith, trusting that His power is limitless and His mercy boundless.
Whatever burdens you carry, bring them before Him in prayer. Jesus understands your pain, and He desires to heal you, to restore your peace, and to bring you into wholeness. Remember, nothing is too difficult for Him. The same Jesus who healed the sick, calmed the storms, and raised the dead is the same Jesus who is with you today, ready to meet your every need.
Have faith, and believe that His healing touch is available to you. In His presence, there is freedom, restoration, and transformation. Keep trusting, keep praying, and keep believing, for your healing is on the way.
PRAYERS
1.Heavenly Father, I pray for Your healing touch to restore clarity, strength, and balance to my brain. Remove any confusion, disorder, or ailment from my mind. May i experience complete mental restoration.In Jesus' name.
2. Lord,I come before You asking for the restoration of my memory. Heal my memory from forgetfulness, confusion, or any form of mental blockage. May my mind be sharp and clear, remembering what is good and true. In Jesus' name.
3.Almighty God,I pray for the full restoration of my body. Bring Your healing touch to every part of my being. Heal me from any pain, sickness, or physical ailment and restore me to perfect health. In Jesus' name.
4.Heavenly Father,I pray for the healing of any blood-related disorders. Cleanse and purify my blood from all impurities and sickness. In Jesus' name.
5.Lord God, I ask that You restore my bones and joints to perfect health. Heal every fracture, or ailment affecting my bone. Strengthen my skeletal system, and bring healing to every part of my body that has been affected. In Jesus' name.
6.Father,I ask for Your healing power to restore my soul. Heal me from any emotional wounds, grief, or sorrow that may have affected my heart. May Your peace, comfort, and love fill every broken area of my soul. In Jesus' name.
7.Lord,I come before You asking for healing of my spirit. Restore my spirit to wholeness, healing every area that is distant, hurt, or burdened. Bring me closer to Your presence and renew my spirit in Your peace and love.In Jesus' name.
8.Lord Jesus,I pray for the healing of my mind. Clear away confusion, anxiety, and any negative thoughts that might have taken root. Renew my mind and restore it to soundness.In Jesus' name.
9. Mighty God, I pray that You would restore my mind to perfect peace and health. I rebuke any spirit of fear, anxiety, depression, or confusion, and ask for Your peace that passes all understanding to fill my heart and mind. Heal me mentally, and restore my joy and clarity. In Jesus' name.
10.Heavenly Father,I pray for the restoration of my eyesight and vision. Open my eyes to see clearly, free from any visual impairment. Heal any cataracts, blindness, or eye diseases. Let my vision be restored to perfection. In Jesus' name.
11.Lord Jesus,I come to You asking for Your healing power to touch my body.Heal me from all physical ailments, from the top of my head to the soles of my feet.In Jesus' name.
12.Heavenly Father,I ask for Your healing power to touch my spirit .Heal my spirit from any separation, sin, or spiritual dryness. Draw me closer to You and restore my relationship with You. Bring healing to every part of my soul that has been wounded by sin.In Jesus' name.
13.Mighty God,I ask You to heal me from mental health issues. Heal me from depression, anxiety, stress, and any mental anguish.I pray that Your peace will invade my mind, and that i will experience restoration and healing. In Jesus' name.
14.Lord,I pray for the healing of my emotional wounds. Heal my broken heart, and bind up all my wounds.Remove the scars of rejection, fear, and past pain. Let Your love fill the empty places in my heart and bring healing to my emotions.In Jesus' name.
15.Almighty God,I pray for healing from genetic disorders. I ask for your healing power to flow through my genes, cells, and DNA, restoring them to perfect health. In Jesus' name,
16.Father,I pray for healing from chronic pain. I ask You to take away my pain, whether it’s physical, emotional, or mental. Restore me to full health and free me from the grip of chronic pain. In Jesus' name.
17.Lord Jesus,I ask You to break the chains of addiction in my life. Heal me from the compulsion to substance abuse or harmful behavior. I speak deliverance and freedom over my life in Jesus' name.
18.God of Peace,I pray that your peace that surpasses all understanding would guard my heart and mind .Heal me from the grip of anxiety and bring comfort to my soul. In Jesus' name,
19.Heavenly Father,I pray that You would bless every barren woman with the gift of children, according to Your perfect will.Let your miraculous touch open their wombs and restore the ability for them to conceive. In Jesus' name.
20.Lord,I pray for the complete restoration of my physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. I ask for Your healing power to touch every area of my life, bringing me into perfect health and wholeness.In Jesus' name.
