WHAT DOES RESTITUTION MEAN?

Restitution typically refers to the act of returning or compensating for something lost, stolen, or damaged. 

It is meant to restore balance, ensure fairness, and make amends for wrongs committed, particularly in legal or moral contexts.

Restitution means restoring or repairing something that was damaged, destroyed, or harmed

Restitution is the act of making something right or restoring what was lost or stolen,ensuring justice and reconciliation. 

It involves a commitment to restoring what has been wrongfully taken,whether through thefts,deceit,or harm.

Restitution is about making things right in the community, ensuring that justice is done and the wrongdoer makes amends.

HOW IS RESTITUTION DIFFERENT FROM COMPENSATION? 

○ Compensation: A financial or material equivalent offered to address a loss or harm.

It involves a substitute or equivalent for what was lost or damaged (usually financial or material equivalent)

○Restitution: The full restoration of what has been wrongfully taken or damaged, and taking steps to make right the wrong beyond simply paying back.

It involves correcting the wrong by returning what was lost or taken, going beyond just paying back.

HOW RESTITUTION SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT BASED ON THE SCRIPTURES 

●Restore sevenfold whatever was stolen out of starvation.

-Proverbs 6:30-31,"People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.Yet when he is found,he must restore sevenfold;He may have to give up all the substance of his house."

●The wrongdoer must make full restitution and restore double whatever was stolen or damaged to ensure justice and fairness. (Exodus 22:1-9)

-Exodus 22:3-4,"He should make full restitution,if he has nothing,then he shall be sold for his theft.If the theft is found in his hand,whether it is an ox or donkey or sheep,he shall restore double."

●Restore all the land forcefully taken from their ancestors and show kindness to them.

-2 Samuel 9:7,"Do not fear for i will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake,and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather..."

●Restore all the cities taken from them.

-1 kings 20:34,"The cities which my father took from your father I will restore,and you may set up marketplaces for yourself..."

● Restoration of what was stolen, extorted,or delivered for safekeeping should be made in full (Lev 6:1-6)

-Leviticus 6:4-5,"Then it shall be,because He has sinned and is guilty,that He shall restore what he has stolen,or the thing which he has extorted,or what was delivered to him for safekeeping,or the thing which he found,or all that about which he has sworn falsely.He shall restore its full value."

●Restitution for the harm done in regard to the holy things of the Lord.(Lev 5:14-16)

-Leviticus 5:16,"And He shall make restitution for the harm that He has done in regard to the Holy thing...."

●Restoration of land, proceeds and possession in full. eg. The Shunammite's land(2 Kings 8:1-6)

-2 Kings 8:6,"Restore all that was hers,and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now."

●Restoration of everything wrongfully taken, including a hundredth of the money that was charged.

-Nehemiah 5:11, " Restore now to them,even this day,their lands,their vineyards,their Olive groves and their houses,also a hundredth of the money and the grain,the new wine and the oil,that you have charged them.

●Restoration a fourfold of anything taken from anyone by false accusation. 

-Luke 19:8,"Look,Lord,I give half of my goods to the poor,and if i have taken anything from anyone by false accusation,i restore fourfold.

●Restoration a hundredfold for the sake of the gospel and kingdom of God

-Mark 10:29-30,"Assuredly,I say to you,there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands ,for my sake and the gospel's,who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time...."

●Restitution for trespasses are made and given to the one wronged.(Numbers 5:5-7)

-Numbers 5:7,"Then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for His trespass in full,....and give it to the one he has wronged.."

●Restitution involves a willingness to make things right.God honors restitution and our efforts towards reconciliation. 

-Matthew 5:23-24,"Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar,and there remember that your brother has something against you,leave your gift there before the altar ,and go your way.First be reconciled to your brother,and then come and offer your gift."

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE RESTITUTION BASED ON THE BIBLE?

○Those wronged or harmed.

Restitution is meant to restore those who have been wronged,whether through deceit or injury. (Exodus 21:33-36)

-Exodus 21:33-34,"And if a man opens a pit,or if a man digs a pit and does not cover it,and an ox or donkey falls in it,.....He shall give money to their owner,but the dead animal shall be his."

○The poor and needy.

Ensure that those who are vulnerable or unable to defend themselves receive what is rightfully theirs.

-Proverbs 22:22-23,"Do not rob the poor because he is poor,nor oppress the afflicted at the gate,For the Lord will plead their cause, and plunder the soul of those who plunder them."

PRAYERS 

1)Lord, help me to truly repent for any wrongs i have committed, and give me the strength and courage to make restitution where it is needed.In Jesus' name.

2) Father,i pray that as i restore what was taken, relationships will be healed and trust rebuilt in our community.In Jesus' name.

3)God of justice, guide me to act justly and show mercy as i seek to make restitution, .In Jesus' name.

4)Lord, bless those who seek restitution and honor their efforts to restore justice, that they might experience Your provision and favor.In Jesus' name.

5) Father, I come before You,asking for Your forgiveness if I have ever taken anything that does not belong to me.I repent for any wrongdoing and ask that You cleanse me from all sin.May Your grace cover me and restore everything I have lost due to my actions. In Jesus' name.

6) O Lord, I pray for deliverance from the generational guilt of bloodshed that has been passed down through my ancestors. Any blood that cries out against me, I command you to be silenced by the power in the name of Jesus. I plead the blood of Jesus over my life and family, and I declare that no evil shall have dominion over us. In Jesus' name.

7) Heavenly Father, I stand on Your promises of restoration, and I declare today that whatever was forcefully taken from me and my family in the past shall be fully recovered. I claim back all that has been stolen, whether it be health, finances, peace, or any other area of life. In the name of Jesus.

8)Father, I declare that I will not suffer loss in any area of my life. I will not lose anything valuable that You have entrusted to me. I receive divine protection over my possessions, relationships, and dreams. In the name of Jesus.

9) Lord, I come before You seeking Your mercy. Forgive me, O God, for any sins I have committed—whether intentionally or unintentionally that are causing harm in my life. I ask that You cleanse me, heal me, and restore my life to the path of righteousness. In Jesus' name.

10)Almighty God, I ask You to restore to me all that the enemy has destroyed in my life. Whatever has been broken, stolen, or damaged, I claim it back in the name of Jesus.

11) Lord, I come before You today, asking for a complete restoration of all that I have lost to the enemy. Whatever the devil has stolen, I demand its return in the name of Jesus. May Your divine favor and grace bring restoration to my life in ways beyond my expectation. In Jesus' name.

12)Father, if I have ever exploited or overcharged anyone, whether knowingly or unknowingly, I ask for Your forgiveness. I repent for any injustice I may have caused, and I pray that You cleanse my heart and restore me to righteousness.In the name of Jesus.

13)Father, I ask for the restoration of all that has been stolen from my bloodline. Every blessing, promise, and inheritance that was taken from my ancestors, I declare it returned a hundredfold in the name of Jesus. 

14) Lord, if I have ever falsely accused anyone, I ask for Your mercy and forgiveness. I repent for speaking against others unjustly and for any harm caused by my words. Father, cleanse my heart and help me to walk in truth and righteousness. In Jesus' name.

15) Father, I pray for the restoration of all broken relationships in my life. Heal the wounds caused by misunderstanding, offense, and betrayal. I ask You to bring reconciliation where there has been division and to rebuild trust where it has been lost. Let Your love and peace reign in my relationships, bringing unity and healing. In Jesus' name.

16) Lord, I cry out for justice and mercy in every situation I face.I ask that you bring justice where there has been injustice and to extend mercy where it is needed.In Jesus' name.

17)Father, may Your will be done in every circumstance, and may I always walk in the balance of Your justice and mercy. In Jesus' name.

18) Lord, give me a heart of true repentance. Help me to recognize my wrongs and turn away from them with sincerity. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and create in me a clean heart. May I grow in humility and seek Your forgiveness with a genuine desire to change. In Jesus' name.

19)Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your faithfulness and provision. I ask that You bless me abundantly and provide for every need in my life. May Your favor surround me like a shield, and may I experience Your provision in every area of my life. In Jesus' name.

20)Father, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude for the many blessings You have already given me. I ask for Your continued provision and blessings in every area of my life. May Your hand of favor rest upon me, and may I experience Your abundant provision. Bless my work, my health, my family, and my finances. In the mighty name of Jesus.
