Sermon: Understanding the patterns in the bloodline

WHAT ARE THE PATTERNS IN THE BLOODLINE?

◇Recurring behaviors,traits,or consequences that follow a family from generation to generation,either negative or positive.

◇These patterns can be seen as inherited or learned behaviors, emotional responses, health conditions, or even life circumstances that seem to repeat themselves across generations within a family. 

These patterns can include:

◇Behavioral Patterns:For example, a history of addiction, depression, or success in certain professions that runs through a family.

◇Health Conditions:Chronic illnesses or genetic conditions (like heart disease, diabetes, or cancer) that appear in multiple generations.

◇Relational Patterns:Family dynamics that repeat, such as patterns of dysfunction, abuse, or emotional neglect, or even positive traits like resilience, unity, or generosity.

◇Cultural or Societal Conditions:Family members facing similar social challenges (e.g., poverty or discrimination) that affect each generation in comparable ways.

COMMON PATTERNS IN THE BLOODLINE

■Positive Bloodline Patterns.

These are traits, behaviors, or virtues that seem to be passed down and fostered through generations, contributing to the well-being and success of individuals in the family.

◇Faith:A deep trust in spiritual principles or religious beliefs that shapes the moral framework and actions of family members.

◇Perseverance:The ability to persist in the face of difficulties or adversity, helping individuals and families overcome challenges and thrive.

◇Service:A strong emphasis on helping others, whether through community service, charity, or fostering a spirit of kindness and generosity within the family.

◇Wisdom:Passing down knowledge, understanding, and the application of life lessons that guide the family through generational challenges.

■Negative Bloodline Patterns.

These are destructive or harmful traits that often manifest in successive generations, creating cycles that can be difficult to break.

◇Addiction:Whether it's substance abuse, gambling, or other addictive behaviors, these can perpetuate through family lines, affecting mental and physical health.

◇Unforgiveness:A tendency to harbor resentment or anger towards others, leading to broken relationships, unresolved conflicts, and emotional stagnation.

◇Anger:Uncontrolled or chronic anger that impacts both individual and family relationships, often creating a hostile environment.

◇Broken Relationships:This includes patterns of divorce, estrangement, or unhealthy family dynamics that repeat across generations, making it harder for new generations to experience healthy bonds.

■ Generational Curses:These are negative spiritual influences that are passed down through family lines due to disobedience or sin.Unresolved sin, rebellion, or unrepentant attitudes may create patterns of suffering that extend to descendants.

-Deuteronomy 5:9,"For I,the Lord your God,am a jealous God,visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me."

10 FACTS ABOUT BLOODLINE PATTERNS 

1.Family traits may not only be genetic but spiritual.

◇Traits such as faith, values, beliefs, and emotional responses can be passed down through spiritual influence, not just biological inheritance.

2.Family traits can influence one's decisions without their awareness.  

◇Unconscious family patterns, including habits, attitudes, and biases, can shape a person’s choices and behavior, often without them realizing it.

3.Family patterns can shape the life choices of future generations.  

◇Positive or negative patterns, such as career choices, relationships, and lifestyle decisions, can be passed down and influence the direction of future generations.

4.Forgiveness plays a crucial role in breaking negative cycles.  

◇Forgiveness,whether towards others or oneself can help heal emotional wounds and disrupt destructive family patterns.

5.Children are influenced by the spiritual environment of their household.  

◇A child’s spiritual growth and values are often deeply shaped by the environment they grow up in, including the practices, beliefs, and attitudes modeled by guardians.

6.Bloodline patterns can affect your mental/emotional health.  

◇Unresolved generational trauma, unhealthy behaviors, or negative family dynamics can have lasting effects on mental health, such as anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem.

7. Certain gifts and callings are passed down to future generations.  

◇Spiritual gifts, talents, or callings may be passed down.

8.A healthy family legacy can bring generational blessing.  

◇When positive values, principles, and behaviors are nurtured within a family, it can lead to generational blessings, including stability, prosperity, and strong relationships.

9.Family patterns can shape societal roles and values.  

◇The family is often the first place where societal roles, gender expectations, and cultural norms are learned, and these patterns can ripple out into broader society.

10.Family patterns are not permanent. They can be broken, redeemed, and restored by God.  

 ◇Many people believe that through spiritual intervention, prayer, repentance, and conscious change, negative family patterns can be broken and a new legacy can be established, often with divine help.

HOW BLOODLINE PATTERNS INFLUENCE OUR LIVES 

■The Influence of ancestral patterns on personal choices,behavior and destiny.

◇Personal Choices:An individual might unconsciously repeat behaviors or make choices based on inherited family traits.

◇Behavior: Certain family traits, like anger, unforgiveness, or perseverance, can manifest in the way we react to stress, handle relationships, or approach life’s challenges

◇Destiny:Our life paths are often influenced by the broader family environment, the values passed down, and the opportunities or barriers created by previous generations.

■Many personal struggles can be traced back to negative generational patterns or curses that have been passed down.

◇Emotional or Mental Health Issues:Family history of mental health challenges (like depression, anxiety, or PTSD) can influence how we cope with stress or relate to others.

◇Addiction:If addiction runs in the family, it can create an environment where future generations are more vulnerable to developing similar struggles.

 ◇Broken Relationships:Dysfunctional family dynamics,such as unresolved conflict, divorce, or abuse, can lead to similar patterns in future generations, making it harder to build stable relationships.

◇Financial Struggles:Poverty or financial mismanagement can sometimes be a recurring theme in families, creating a cycle that descendants find difficult to break.

■The Influence of Parents on Future Generations.

◇Parental Influence: Parents or guardians, through their actions, words, and attitudes, have a profound impact on their children’s choices and behaviors.Children inherit not just physical traits, but also the emotional and behavioral patterns of their parents and ancestors.

◇Spiritual Legacy:The values and faith a child is raised with can guide their spiritual journey and impact future generations. 

 -Proverbs 22:6,"Train up a child in the way he should go,and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

BLOODLINE PATTERNS ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

□Families that sin against the Lord can be cut off from being God's people.

-Leviticus 20:5,"Then I will set My face against that man and against his family;and I will cut him off from his people,and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech.

□Families involved in idolatry shall be visited with their iniquities up to the 4th generation.The consequences of idolatry can affect up to the fourth generation, unless there is repentance.

-Exodus 20:3-6," You shall have no other gods before Me......Visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me."

-Deuteronomy 29:18,"So that there may not be among you man or woman or family or tribe ,whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God,to go and serve the gods of these nations."

□Some families have specific roles assigned to them by the Lord,that are passed down.

e.g.The Levites are  to serve in the tabernacle(Numbers 3 and 4) 

-Numbers 3:6,"Bring the tribe of Levi near,and present them before Aaron the priest ,that they may serve Him.

-Numbers 4:2-3,"Take a census of the sons of Kohath.....all who enter the service to do the work in the tabernacle of meeting. "

□Some families only marry within the family of their father's tribe to keep their inheritance.

 -Numbers 36:6-7,"Let them marry whom they think best,but they may marry only within the family of their father's tribe. So the inheritance of the children of Israel shall not change hands from tribe to tribe..."

□Some families are known for barrenness.

-Judges 13:2,"Now a certain man from Zorah,of family of the Danites ,whose name was Manoah;and his wife was barren and had no children." 

-Genesis 18:11,"Now Abraham and Sarah were old,well advanced in age;and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing."

-Genesis 25:21,"Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife,because she was barren..."

-Genesis 29:31,"But Rachel was barren."

 -1 Samuel 1:2,"But Hannah had no children."

□Some families die prematurely.

 -Ruth 1:3-5,"Then Elimelech,Naomi's husband died...Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died."

 -Numbers 26:10,"And the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up together with Korah when that company died.."

□Some families are abusive and curse too much. e.g.The  Malicious curse and abusive behavior from Shimei towards David. 

-2 Samuel 16:5,"Now when King David came to Bahurim ,there was a man from the family of the house of Saul,whose name was Shimei the Son of Gera,coming from there.He came out,cursing continously as he came.

 -1 Kings 2:8,"And see,you have with you Shimei the Son of Gera,a Benjamite from Bahurim,who curses me with a malicious curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim."

□Some families do not give birth to many children.

-1 Chronicles 4:27,"But his brothers did not have many children,nor did any of their families multiply as much as the children of Judah."

□Some families are blessed because of the presence of the Lord in their midst.

e.g.The blessing of God's presence, like in the case of the Ark of the Covenant in Obed-Edom’s house.

-1 Chronicles 13:14,"The Ark of God remained with the family of ObedEdom in his house three months.And the Lord blessed the house of ObedEdom and all that he had."

□Some families are evil, and they reject God's ways to such an extent that their sin brings about their destruction.

-Jeremiah 8:2-3,"They shall not be gathered nor buried;they shall be like refuse on the face of the earth.Then death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of those who remain of this evil family.."

□Some families are punished because of their iniquities.This is a collective sin,where a family faces consequences for its iniquities. 

-Amos 3:2,"You only have I known of all the families of the earth;Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities."

□Some families are known for disasters.God brings judgment and disaster on a people due to their sin.

-Micah 2:3,"Therefore thus says the Lord:"Behold,against this family I am devising disaster."

□Some families are dangerous to curse, because if you do, the Lord will punish you. e.g. God's covenant with Abraham and the protection of Abraham's descendants. 

-Genesis 12:3,"I will bless those who bless you,And I will curse him who curses you."

□Some families can fend for themselves.

e.g.Joseph provided his family’s needs even in times of scarcity.

-Genesis 47:12,"Then Joseph provided his father,his brothers,and all his father's household with bread,according to the number of their families. "

□Some families know and recite their ancestry.

 -Numbers 1:18,"And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month;and they recited their ancestry by families,by their fathers' houses,according to the number of names,from twenty years old and above,each one individually."

□Some families camp by their standard.God has a specific design for families and how they are to gather together under His leadership.

-Numbers 2:1-34,"And the Lord spike to Moses and Aaron saying,saying:Everyone of the children of Isreal shall camp by his own standard,besise the emblems of his father's house.....So they camped by their standards and so they broke camp,each one by his family,according to their father's houses."

□Some families are known to design artistic works and carve woods.

e.g. Bezalel and Oholiab were gifted artisans from specific families, and these talents were used to glorify God through the construction of the Tabernacle.

-Exodus 35:31-35,"See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the Son of Uri,the son of Hur,of the tribe of Judah,....and in Him sad Aholiab the son of Ahisamach,of the tribe of Dan.He has filled them with skill to do all manner of work of the engraver and the designer and the tapestry maker.."

□Some families marry a certain type of woman, only beautiful women.

-Genesis 26:7,"Lest the men of the place kill me for Rebecca,because she is beautiful to behold."

-Genesis 12:11,"Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance."

□While bloodline patterns can affect families, Jesus Christ offers a way of redemption and healing from any negative patterns.

-Ephesians 3:14-15,"I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named..."

■RECOGNIZING NEGATIVE BLOODLINE PATTERNS

Negative patterns often manifest in recurring struggles, such as:

◇Addiction:If substance abuse, alcoholism, or other addictive behaviors have been present in multiple generations.

◇Divorce and Broken Families:A pattern of marital instability or dysfunctional family dynamics.

◇Financial Struggles:Persistent poverty, debt, or poor financial management passed down through generations.

◇Emotional or Psychological Struggles: Anxiety, depression, anger, or unresolved trauma that affects multiple generations.

◇Health Issues:Genetic illnesses or recurring health problems that seem to impact each generation.

◇Spiritual Consequences of sin:The Bible speaks of sin and its consequences being passed down through generations, but also offers hope for breaking free from these patterns through Christ.

- Exodus 20:5,"You shall not bow down to them nor serve them.For I,the Lord your God,am a jealous God,visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me."

- Numbers 14:18,"The Lord is long-suffering and abundant in mercy,forgiving iniquity and transgression;but He by no means clears the guilty,visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation. "

■BREAKING NEGATIVE BLOODLINE PATTERNS 

◇Repent and seek forgiveness.

Repenting on behalf of your ancestors, as well as for your own sins, is a critical step in breaking the hold of generational curses.

-Leviticus 26:40-42,"But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers....If their uncircumcised hearts are humbled,and they accept their guilt..."

◇Renounce the curses and break the chains.

Through faith in Jesus, we are no longer bound by generational curses or negative patterns, but we are free to walk in God's blessing.

-Galatians 3:13-14,"Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law,having become a curse for us...that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. "

◇Renew your mind and change your behavior.

God’s word calls us to renew our minds and live differently:

-Romans 12:2,"And do not be conformed to this world,but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.."

- Ephesians 4:22-24,"That you put off ,concerning your former conduct ,the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,and be renewed in the Spirit of your mind,and that you put on the new man which was created according to God.."

◇Walk in the power of the Holy Spirit.

 The Spirit empowers us to overcome old habits, break negative cycles, and live in the freedom Christ offers.

- Romans 8:13,"For if you live according to the flesh you will die;but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,you will live."

◇Create a new Legacy for Future Generations.

Teach your children and future generations to walk in God’s ways, to make wise choices, and to rely on God’s grace.

- Proverbs 22:6,"Train up a child in the way he should go,And when he is old he will not depart from it."

- Psalm 112:1-2,"Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,who delights in His great commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth;The generation of the upright will be blessed."

PRAYERS

1)Lord Jesus, I come before you today, asking for your mercy and forgiveness. Any sin that has been passed down through my family line, I plead for your cleansing and freedom. Break every generational stronghold and set me free by the power of your blood in Jesus’ name.

2)Holy Spirit, I invite you to work deeply within me. Set me free from any deep-rooted problems, issues, or curses originating from my family foundation. I ask that you uproot every negative influence and restore peace, wholeness, and freedom in my life in Jesus’ name.

3) I renounce all idols and their influence over my life. I declare that only the Lord God will be my God in Jesus' name.

4)Father, I thank you for the gifts and talents you have deposited in my family. I declare that these gifts will not be used for the service of evil or to honor Satan in any way. Rather, I commit them to the glory of your name, to build your kingdom and fulfill your purposes in Jesus' name.

5) Lord, guide my choices and preserve me from relationships that do not align with your will in Jesus' name.

6)I break and destroy every curse of barrenness in my family line. I declare fruitfulness in every area of my life, and I cancel every generational curse of infertility in Jesus' name.

7)I cancel every curse of premature death, sickness, and affliction that has plagued my family line. By the authority of Jesus’ name, I declare long life, divine health, and freedom from every spirit of death or disease in Jesus' name.

8)I declare that I shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord. Every plan of the enemy to cut my life short is destroyed in Jesus' name.

9)I break the cycle of abuse, trauma, and emotional pain that has been passed down through my family line. In the name of Jesus, I claim healing, restoration, and freedom from all past wounds in Jesus' name.

10)I declare that my family is blessed and highly favored. We are recipients of God's grace, mercy, and favor in every area of our lives in Jesus' name.

11)I destroy the flow of evil and any curses that have entered my family line.I decree that every evil influence is severed, and only the righteousness of Christ shall prevail in our lives in Jesus' name.

12) I declare that the iniquities of my ancestors will not block or hinder my blessings. I stand under the grace of God and claim His favor upon my life in Jesus' name.

13)I cancel every disaster, calamity, or destruction that the enemy has planned against my family.I declare protection, safety, and security over my family in Jesus' name.

14)I cancel every evil word spoken over my family, whether in the past or present. Every curse, spoken word, or declaration of destruction is nullified by the authority of Jesus in Jesus' name.

15)I declare that I will not depend on anyone but the Lord for my provision. My trust is in God alone, and I believe that He will provide for me according to His riches in glory in Jesus' name.

16)Any evil standard set by the enemy to divide or separate my family, I command it to be destroyed in Jesus' name. I declare unity, love, and peace in my family in Jesus' name.

17)I declare a new legacy for my family, a legacy based on the principles and power of Jesus Christ. We will walk in the light of God’s word, and our lives will be a testimony of His faithfulnes in Jesus' name.

18)I break free from any genetic disease or hereditary condition that has been passed down through my family. I declare that I am healed by the stripes of Jesus, and no disease,sickness, or infirmity has a place in my body in Jesus' name.

19)I declare that I will not marry anyone that I am not supposed to marry, under any circumstances. Lord, protect me from making a wrong decision, and lead me to the person you have chosen for me in Jesus' name.

20)Any problems in my life, career, or ministry that originated from my family, I command them to be destroyed completely in Jesus' name. I break free from every curse, limitation, or hindrance, and I declare that my life is advancing according to God’s will in Jesus' name.

Thank you heavenly father,for answering my prayers in Jesus name. Amen
