Sermon: Does God exist?

WHO IS GOD?

•God is the creator of all things. He created the heavens and the earth, the seas, light/darkness,day/night,fruit trees,herbs,sea creatures,birds of the air,every living creature and man.(Genesis 1:1-31)
•God is the Lord and he made heaven,earth,the sea and all that is in them(Acts 4:24)
•God is the blessed and only potentate,the king of kings and the Lord of Lords(1 Timothy 6:15)
•God is the who declares the end from the beginning,from the ancient times things that are not yet done(Isaiah 46:10)
•God is the saviour of the world, He sent His only begotten son Jesus Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.(John 3:16 & Romans 5:8)
•God is love(1 John 4:8)
-1 John 4:8,"He who does not love does not know God,for God is love."
•God is everywhere (Psalm 139:7-12).
•God is the alpha and the Omega,the beginning and the End(Revelation 1:8)
•God is a merciful God(Deuteronomy 4:31)
•God made all things(John 1:3)
-John 1:3,"All things were made through Him,and without Him nothing was made that was made."
•God is the king eternal, immortal, invisible,the only wise God(1 Timothy 1:17)
•God created all things that are in heaven and that are on earth,visible and invisible,whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers(Colossians 1:16)
•God is great and mighty in power(Psalm 147:5)
• God is the rock,His work is perfect,His ways are justice,He is a God of truth,righteous and upright.(Deuteronomy 32:4)
•God is a spirit(John 4:24)
•God is rich in mercy(Ephesians 2:4)
•God is the father of our Lord Jesus Christ(Ephesians 1:3)
•God is Omnipotent (Revelation 19:6)

•God is the ultimate source of existence.All creation originates from Him and all human life has a purpose centered around Him.(1 corinthians 8:6)

-1 Corinthians 8:6,"Yet for us there is one God,the Father,of whom are all things ,and we for Him."
•The foundations of the earth was laid by God(Job 38:4)
•God is the Father of lights(James 1:17)

•God is the Alpha and the Omega,the First and the Last(Revelation 1:11)

•God is a consuming fire(Hebrews 12:29,Deuteronomy 4:24)

•God is not man,that lies,nor repents (Numbers 23:19)

•God is the living God(Danieal 6:26)

•God is the ancient of days(Danieal 7:9,13)

•God fills the heaven and earth(Jeremiah 23:24)

•God is the almighty God(Genesis 17:1)

•God is the chief shepherd(1 Peter 5:4)

•The God who sees-El Roi(Genesis 16:13)

•He is the living God and the everlasting king(Jeremiah 10:10)

•He is the Faithful and true God(Rev 19:11)

•He is the fountain of living waters (Jeremiah 2:13)

•The God of all flesh(Jeremiah 32:27)

•The God of my praise(Psalm 109:1)

•God of our salvation(1 Chronicles 16:35, Psalm 65:5,Psalm 79:9)

•The God who does wonders(Psalm 77:14)

•Lion of the tribe of Judah,the root of David(Rev 5:5)

•The maker of all things(Jeremiah 51:19)

•The Lord of hosts and the mighty one of Israel(Isaiah 1:24 & Isaiah 30:29)

•The Lord will provide-Jehovah Jireh(Genesis 22:14)

•The Lord who heals you-Jehovah Rapha(Exodus 15:26)

•The Lord is my banner-Jehovah Nissi(Exodus 17:15)

•The Lord is there-Jehovah Shammah(Ezekiel 48:35)

•The Lord our righteousness-Jehovah Tsidkenu(Jeremiah 23:6)

•The Lord who sanctifies you-Jehovah Mekoddishkem or M'kaddesh.(Exodus 31:13)

Everyone worships or believes in a form of god or deity-Gods of Christianity,Hindu Buddhism,Islam,Moroms,Confucianism and traditional religions.Different religions offer unique perspectives on the nature of divinity.Whether God exists is a personal question,shaped by individual beliefs, experiences and cultural contexts.

There must be a God who exists and who is capable of doing all things.

 DOES GOD EXIST?
●PHILOSOPHICAL ARGUMENT FOR GOD'S EXISTENCE 
◇Cosmological Argument:According to the cosmological argument, everything that begins to exist has a cause. Since the universe began to exist, it must also have a cause outside itself, which many identify as God. This argument emphasizes the necessity of a first cause or an uncaused cause to explain the existence of the universe.

◇Teleological argument or the argument from design, asserts that the intricate order and complexity of the universe imply the existence of a purposeful designer. Proponents argue that just as a watch’s complexity suggests a watchmaker, the universe's specific conditions conducive to life point to an intelligent creator.

◇The Moral Argument claims that the existence of objective moral values and duties is best explained by the presence of a moral lawgiver, often identified as God. It suggests that if objective morals exist—such as notions of right and wrong—then there must be a source beyond human society, which many believe to be God.

●EXISTENCE OF GOD BASED ON SCIENCE
Scientifically, some many theories, facts and publications has proved  that a supernatural power exists that control the world economies and the entire universe.
•Science seeks to explain the natural world through empirical evidence and experimentation, while religion often addresses moral, existential, and metaphysical questions.
•Some scientists interpret the universe's complexities and the fine-tuning of physical constants as evidence of a designer or higher power.

◇NOTABLE SCIENTISTS WHO BELIEVED IN GOD 

Many scientists maintain personal beliefs in God or a higher power, suggesting that faith can coexist with a scientific worldview.

▪︎Isaac Newton: Believed in a divine creator and wrote extensively on theology.
-Don't doubt the creator because it is inconceivable that accidents alone could be the controller of this universe(Isaac Newton)   
▪︎Albert Einstein:Although he rejected traditional religious views, he spoke of a "cosmic religion" and acknowledged a sense of wonder at the universe.
-The more I study science,the more I believe in God(Albert Einstein)
▪︎Niels Bohr:A pioneer of quantum theory, he expressed belief in a higher power guiding the universe.
-Eveything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real(Niels Bohr)
▪︎Francis Collins:The geneticist and head of the Human Genome Project is a devout Christian and has written about his faith.
-The God of the Bible is also the God of the Genome.He can be worshipped in the Cathedral or the laboratory.(Francis Collins)
▪︎Max Planck:The father of quantum theory, Planck believed that science and religion are complementary.
-Both religion and science require a belief in God.For believers,God is the beginning, and for physicists,He is at the end of all considerations.....To the former,He is the Fondation,to the latter,the crown of the edifice of every generalized world view(Max Planck)
▪︎Galileo Galilei: Although he faced opposition from the Church, he believed in a creator and viewed his scientific work as understanding God's creation.
-The laws of nature are written by the hand of God in the language of Mathematics (Galileo Galilei)
▪︎Michael Faraday:A prominent physicist and chemist, Faraday was a devout Christian who saw science as a means to understand God's work.
-The book of nature which we have to read is written by the finger of God(Michael Faraday)

● BIBLICAL DESCRIPTION OF GOD

No one has seen God but the scriptures described what He looks like.

-Exodus 33:20,” He said,You cannot see My face,for no one shall see Me,and live."

•His head and hair were white like wool,as white as snow,and His eyes like a flame of fire(Revelation 1:14)

•His feet were like fine brass,and His voice as the sound of many water(Revelation 1:15)

•Out of His mouth goes a sharp sword (Revelation 19:15)

 His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength(Revelation 1:16)

•His eyes were like a flame of fire,and on His head were many crowns(Revelation 19:12)
•He looks like a Jasper and a Sardis stone in appearance(Revelation 4:3)
•The train of God’s robe filled the temple,(Isaiah 6:1)
•The appearance of His waist and upwards ,has the colour of amber with the appearance of fire all around

The appearance of His waist and downward,has the appearance of fire with brightness all around(Ezekiel 1:27)
•His face is like the appearance of lightning,his eyes like torches of fire,his arms and feet like burnished bronze in colour,and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude(Danieal 10:6)
•The God of glory thunders,the voice of the Lord is powerful and full of majesty.(Psalm 29:3-4)

•The voice of the Lord  divides the flames of fire and shakes the wilderness(Psalm 29:7-8)
•Smoke goes up from His nostrils and devouring fire from His mouth(Psalm 18:8)
•His brightness was like the light;He had rays flashing from his hand(Habakkuk 3:4)

•His garment was white as snow,And the hair of His head was like pure wool(Daniel 7:9)

■THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD

•God has invisible attributes which can be clearly seen and understood in all his creations(Romans 1:20)

◇Omnipotence:God is all-powerful,able to do anything that is consistent with His nature (Genesis 1:1,Psalm 33:6,Revelation 19:6).

◇Omniscience:God is all-knowing, aware of all things past, present, and future (Psalm 139:1-4).

◇Omnipresence:God is present everywhere at all times and nothing is hidden from Him.(Psalm 139:7-10; Jeremiah 23:23-24).

◇Holiness:God is morally perfect and Holy.(Isaiah 6:3, Revelation 4:8).

◇Love: God embodies love(1 John 4:8).

◇Justice:God is fair and righteous, ensuring justice and mercy(Psalm 89:14).

◇Unchangeable: God does not change in His nature or character(Malachi 3:6).

◇Sovereignty:God is in control of all things and works according to His divine plan (Romans 8:28).

◇Faithfulness:God is reliable and keeps His promises(2 Timothy 2:13).

◇God is mighty in power and His understanding is infinite, beyond human comprehension.(Psalm 147:5)

◇God is self-sustaining and has life within Himself(John 5:26)

◇God  knows the end from the beginning and from ancient times things that are not yet done(Isaiah 46:9-10)

◇God’s wisdom and knowledge are profound and His judgements and ways are unsearchable(Romans 11:33)

◇God is just and true,embodying righteousness in all His ways.(Deuteronomy 32:4)

◇God is merciful and shows mercy and compassion according to His will(Romans 9:15-16).

◇God is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy(Psalm 145:8)

ATHEISM AND BELIEF IN GOD'S EXISTENCE 

•Atheism is the absence of belief in any gods or deities.Atheists often rely on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning,viewing religious claims as unsupported by sufficient proof. Many atheists argue that the existence of suffering,evil,and the lack of observable divine intervention are reasons to reject belief in a god. 

•AGNOSTICISM AND BELIEF IN GOD'S EXISTENCE 

•Agnosticism is the philosophical view that the existence of God or the divine is unknown or unknowable.

Agnostics assert that the existence of God is ultimately unknowable or currently unknown. They may feel that evidence for or against God's existence is insufficient, leaving open the possibility but not the certainty of a deity's existence. 

Both atheism and agnosticism challenge traditional religious beliefs.Atheism  denies the existence of deities, while agnosticism maintains a position of uncertainty, reflecting a nuanced approach to the questions of faith and existence.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE 

Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heavy heart, acknowledging my doubt and disbelief. I repent for not trusting in Your love and the gift of eternal life through Jesus. Help me to believe in your promise and draw me closer to you,in Jesus name. Amen.

PRAYERS

1.Lord, teach me to seek your wisdom daily.Help me to learn from you and grow in understanding,in Jesus name.

2.God, I marvel at your greatness.Lead me to seek your understanding, for I know you hold all knowledge,in Jesus name.

3.Father,I thank you for the life you give. May I seek you, the source of all life, to know your ways more deeply,in Jesus name.

4.God, as I look upon you, stir my heart to seek you through your powerful word that brings life,in Jesus name.

5.Lord,help me to remember your eternal purpose.I seek you,trusting in your plans that are far greater than my own,in Jesus name.

6.God,I acknowledge that you are always present.Help me to seek you in every moment, knowing I cannot escape your gaze in Jesus name.

7.Father,your wisdom is unsearchable.Help me to seek you for understanding beyond my grasp, trusting in your perfect knowledge,in Jesus name.

8.Lord, may I continually seek your presence, experiencing your love and grace,in Jesus name.

9.Righteous God,I seek justice and truth in my life.Guide me to reflect your righteousness in all I do,in Jesus name.

10.Merciful Father,I seek your compassion.May I rest in your grace and find comfort in your sovereignty over my life,in Jesus name.

11.Gracious God,I thank you for your patience and love.Help me to seek your heart, knowing you are always ready to forgive,in Jesus name.

12.Holy Lord, I seek to understand your holiness.Draw me closer to you in worship and reverence for who you are,in Jesus name

13.Majestic God, let your glory shine upon me. I seek your presence to illuminate my path and strengthen my faith,in Jesus name.

14.Father,let me not wander from your commands, but anchor my soul in your truth,in Jesus name.

15.God, I draw near to you, trusting in your promise that you will draw near to me. Help me to seek intimacy with you,in Jesus name.

16.Lord,open my heart to your truth as I pursue a deeper relationship with you,in Jesus name.

17.Father, I consider everything a loss compared to knowing you.Help me to seek you above all else in my life in Jesus name.

18.Lord, help me to seek you while you may be found.Draw me closer as I call upon your name with a sincere heart,in Jesus name.

19.O Lord,teach me to seek you diligently, knowing you reward those who earnestly pursue you,in Jesus name.

20.Help me, God, to seek first your kingdom and righteousness. May my heart align with your will in all things in Jesus name.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,And to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,To God our saviour,who alone is wise,Be glory and majesty, dominion and power, forever.Amen
