Sermon:Prosperity
▪︎To prosper means to thrive in all areas of life-spiritually,emotionally,physically and relationally.
▪︎To prosper means to thrive or succeed, particularly in a way that enhances one's well-being or fortune. This can involve achieving financial success, experiencing personal growth, or enjoying good health and relationships.
▪︎To prosper can also mean living in alignment with one's values and purpose, where success isn't just measured by external accomplishments but by inner peace and connection with others.
WHAT ARE THE FORMS OF PROSPERITY?
Prosperity implies a state of flourishing and fulfillment in various aspects of life, including emotional, spiritual, and social dimensions.
▪︎Spiritual Prosperity: True prosperity starts with a right relationship with God. Spiritual prosperity involves living in alignment with God's will, experiencing His peace, and growing in faith.As one's soul thrives,it can positively influence all aspects of life, including health and financial success.(3 John 2)
-3 John 2,"Beloved,I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health,just as your soul prospers.
▪︎Material Prosperity: Prosperity in this sense is often linked to living righteously and being a good steward of resources. (Deuteronomy 28:8, Proverbs 3:9-10).
-Deuteronomy 28:8,"Blessed shall you be when you come in,and Blessed shall you be when you go out."
-Proverbs 3:9-110,"Honor the Lord with your possessions,and with the firstfruits of all your increase;So your barns will be filled with plenty,and your vats will overflow with new wine."
▪︎Emotional and Relational Prosperity: Prosperity also includes emotional well-being and healthy relationships. Living according to biblical principles can lead to a fulfilling and harmonious life (Psalm 128:1-2).
-Psalm 128:1-2,"Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord,who walks in His ways.When you eat the labor of your hands,you shall be happy,and it shall be well with you."
▪︎Purpose and Fulfillment:Prosperity involves fulfilling God's purpose for one's life. This includes using one's gifts and talents in ways that honor God and benefit others (Jeremiah 29:11).
-Jeremiah 29:11,"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,says the Lord,thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT PROSPERITY?
■Prosperity as a blessing from God.
◇Riches,honor, and blessings come from the Lord, who takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants.
-1 Chronicles 29:12,"Both riches and honour come from you."
-Psalm 35:27,"Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant."
-Proverbs 10:22:The blessing of the Lord makes one rich,And He adds no sorrow with it."
■Prosperity encompasses spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.
◇God's desire is for believers to prosper in all things,including health and spiritual well-being(3 John 2)
-3 John 2,"Beloved,I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health,just as your soul prospers.
◇Prosperity also includes societal blessings and a divine outpouring of God's grace, favor, and goodness.(Ezekiel 34:26)
-Ezekiel 34:26,"I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing;and I will cause showers to come down in their season;there shall be showers of blessings.
■Prosperity requires right relationship with God.
◇True prosperity is linked to one's relationship with God, where trust in God is prioritized over trust in wealth.(Mark 10:24 & Proverbs 28:25)
-Proverbs 28:25,"But He who trusts in the Lord will be prospered."
-Mark 10:24,"Children,how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God."
◇The righteous will prosper because they delight in God's law(Psalm 1:1-4)
-Psalm 1:1-4,"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.....And whatever he does shall prosper."
■Prosperity for the righteous and obedient.
◇Prosperity is promised to those who fear God, obey His commands, and serve Him faithfully.(Psalm 112:1-3 ,Job 36:11 and Deuteronomy 28:1-14)
-Psalm 112:1-3,"Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,who delights in His commandments...Wealth and riches will be in his house."
-Job 36:11,"If they obey and serve Him,They shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasures.
-Deuteronomy 28:1-14,"Now it shall come to pass,if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God,to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today......And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you,because you obey the voice of the Lord your God..."
■Warning against trusting in wealth.
◇Believers should not place their trust in material wealth which can be uncertain but to trust in God who is the true source of prosperity.(1 Timothy 6:17 and Proverbs 28:25)
-1 Timothy 6:17,"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty,nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God,who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
-Proverbs 28:25,"But He who trusts in the Lord will be prospered
◇True prosperity comes from the Lord, wealth gained dishonestly will not last. (Proverbs 13:11)
-Proverbs 13:11,"Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished,But he who gathers by labor will increase.
■The dangers of forgetting God in prosperity.
Prosperity can sometimes cause people to become self-reliant and forget their dependence on God, which can lead to spiritual decline.
-Lamentations 3:17,"I have forgotten prosperity. "
■Societal Impact of prosperity.
◇Cities can spread out or expand through prosperity.Prosperity can lead to broader societal blessings that come when a people or nation is prosperous under God's blessing.
-Zechariah 1:17,"My cities shall again spread out through prosperity."
■Prosperity is for all,Including the wicked.
◇The wicked may also experience prosperity, but wealth accumulated through dishonesty or wickedness will not endure.
-Psalm 73:3,"For I was envious of the boastful,when I saw the prosperity of the wicked."
■God makes rich,lifts up ,and makes people to inherit the throne of glory.
-1 Samuel 2:7-8,"The Lord makes poor and makes rich;......To set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory."
■The wealth of the sinner is kept for the righteous.
-Proverbs 13:22,"But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. "
■Riches,wealth and enjoying the fruits of one's labour is also a gift from God.
-Ecclesiastes 5:19,"As for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth,and given him power to eat of it, to receive His heritage and rejoice in his labour-this is the gift of God.
■Prosperity comes from God,who desires for His people to prosper and provides the means to achieve wealth.
-Deuteronomy 8:18,"And you shall remember the Lord your God,for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.
■The Lord gives enduring riches and honour.
-Proverbs 8:18,"Riches and honor are with me,Enduring riches and righteousness."
TIPS FOR ENHANCING PROSPERITY
□Diligence and hard work.
Diligence, being consistent and focused in your work, is essential for success. Working hard, being disciplined, and not procrastinating are keys to achieving financial stability and personal growth.
-Proverbs 10:4, "He who has a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich."
-Proverbs 12:24,"The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor."
□Generosity and giving.
Generosity attracts God's blessing and opens the doors to further prosperity. Generosity and giving through tithing, charitable acts, or helping others in need, helps to receive and sustain God's blessings.
- Proverbs 3:9-10,"Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine."
-Luke 6:38,"Give,and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."
□Faith and trust in God.
Faith and trust in Him provide peace, confidence, and guidance in managing wealth and opportunities. Trusting God means acknowledging that He has the power to direct your steps and meet your needs, beyond what you can accomplish on your own.
-Proverbs 16:3,"Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established."
-Philippians 4:19, "And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
□Wisdom and sound decision-making.
The Bible encourages seeking wisdom above riches because it leads to better decision-making in all areas of life. Making wise investments, building strong relationships, and avoiding reckless decisions are all part of the path to prosperity.
-Proverbs 3:13-16,"Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding.....In her left hand riches and honor."
□Integrity and honesty.
Prosperity built on integrity is sustainable and honorable. Financial success achieved through dishonest means is fleeting, while honest work and ethical decisions lead to long-term success.
-Proverbs 13:11,"Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase."
□Contentment.
Contentment frees you from the destructive power of greed and comparison, and it positions you to enjoy the prosperity God has already provided.
-1 Timothy 6:6-10,"Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out......But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare,and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition."
□Learning to manage resources.
Learning how to manage money, time, and talents wisely is essential. If you are faithful in managing the small things, God can trust you with greater things.
-Luke 16:10,"He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much."
□Perseverance and patience.
Prosperity often requires patience. It may take time for efforts to bear fruit, and there will be challenges along the way. Perseverance and patience is necessary to endure setbacks and stay focused on long-term goals.
-James 5:7-8,"Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain."
HOW TO ACHIEVE FINANCIAL FREEDOM
□Budgeting:It is the practice of planning how to allocate your income, which helps you manage expenses and save for future needs.
-Proverbs 21:20,"There is desirable treasure ,And oil in the dwelling of the wise,But a foolish man squanders it.
□Saving:It helps you avoid becoming enslaved to debt and provides you with financial security for the future.
-Proverbs 22:7,"The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender."
□Living within your means:It means ensuring your expenses do not exceed your income.We should carefully consider the costs before making financial decisions.
-Luke 14:28-30,"For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?"
□Living debt-free: Being debt-free means that you have no outstanding financial obligations or loans.Being in debt places you under the control of your creditors, making it harder to achieve true freedom.
-Proverbs 22:7,"The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender."
□Being a good steward of the resources God gives:Stewardship is managing all that God has entrusted to you, including your money, time, talents, and relationships.Good stewardship leads to greater abundance, and it positions you to be a blessing to those around you, contributing to your financial freedom.
-Matthew 25:21,"His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant...I will make you ruler over many things."
□Investing wisely: Diversifying your investments, whether in stocks, real estate, or other ventures, can help build wealth over time.
-Ecclesiastes 11:2,"Give a serving to Seven,and also to eight,For you do not know what evil will be on the earth."
□Generosity and giving:Generosity is a key to financial freedom. The more you give, the more you open the door for God's blessings.
-2 Corinthians 9:6-7," Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.....For God loves a cheerful giver."
□Avoid Get-rich-quick schemes:Building true wealth takes time and discipline. Avoid shortcuts, scams, or get-rich-quick schemes that often lead to financial ruin.
-Proverbs 13:11,"Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished. "
HOW TO LIVE A PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY LIFE
○Honor God with your body: Living a prosperous and healthy life begins with understanding that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. This means you are called to take care of your physical health and well-being .
-1 Corinthians 6:19-20* – "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God,and you are not your own?For you were bought at a price;therefore glorify God in your body."
○Seek spiritual prosperity:Prioritizing spiritual health through prayer, worship, and study of God's word contributes to overall prosperity.
-3 John 1:2,"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
○Maintain balance and wholeness:A prosperous and healthy life requires taking care of the body, mind, and spirit.
-Physical Health:Eat healthily, stay active, get adequate sleep, and avoid harmful substances.
-Mental and Emotional Health: Develop resilience, practice gratitude, manage stress, and cultivate positive relationships.
-Spiritual Health:Spend time in prayer, fellowship, and worship, and live according to God’s principles.
○Trust in God's provision for health and prosperity:Trusting God to provide for your needs, including health, and seeking His guidance in every area of life is key to true prosperity.
-3 John 2,"Beloved,I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health."
PRAYER
1.I declare that wealth and riches shall be in my house in Jesus' name.
2.I receive prosperity from the Almighty God in the name of Jesus'.
3.I receive profitable wealth and riches from God in Jesus' name.
4.I will not lack any good thing in life.in Jesus' name.
5.Father,grant me wisdom to manage my resources and to use my prosperity for the benefit of others.in the name of Jesus'.
6.I will not struggle to get wealth,God will meet all my needs in the name of Jesus'.
7.Lord Jesus,supply me with the abundance of riches.in Jesus' name.
8.Father,help me not to trust in the riches of this world in Jesus' name.
9.Lord Jesus,thank you for the blessings and abundance you provide in Jesus' name
10.Father bless the works of my hand in Jesus' name.
11.O Lord,help me to enjoy the fruits of my labour and share my blessings generously in Jesus' name.
12.I will not be oppressed by riches, the Lord will grant me rest on every side,in the name of Jesus'.
13O Lord,help me to align my efforts with your will,so that my endeavors may flourish.in Jesus' name.
14.Father,cause me to delight in your great goodness towards me in Jesus' name.
15.I will find wealth in all my labours.in Jesus' name.
16.My wealth will not stop me from serving the Lord in Jesus' name.
17.Father,bless me richly in all things in Jesus' name.
18.I declare that i will live a prosperous life on earth in the name of Jesus'.
19.Empower me, O Lord, to make great wealth in Jesus' name.
20.I will put my trust in the Lord of hosts, I will not trust in the riches of this world in Jesus' name.
