WHO ARE ANGELS?
Angels are powerful, obedient, and spiritual beings who serve God and aid in His plans.
• Angels as messengers: Angels often deliver important messages from God. For example, the angel Gabriel announced the birth of John the Baptist to Zechariah (Luke 1:11-20) and the birth of Jesus to Mary(Luke 1:26-38)

• Angels as protectors: Angels are often described as protectors.
-Psalm 91:11,“For he shall give His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways."
• Angels as servants of God: They are depicted as servants of God who carry out His will, such as executing judgment or providing guidance (e.g., Revelation 7:1-3, where angels hold back the winds of destruction).
-Revelation 7:1,"I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth,holding the four winds of the earth."
• Angels as worshipers: Angels are also seen in the Bible as worshipers of God, praising Him and glorifying His name (Luke 2:13).
-Luke 2:13,"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest,And on earth peace,goodwill toward men!"
FACTS ABOUT ANGELS IN THE BIBLE
• Angels can make mistakes or errors: Angels are not perfect,they are created beings who may not be infallible.
-Job 4:18-19,"If He puts no trust in His servants,If He charges His angels with errors.How much more those who dwell in houses of clay...."
• Angels should not be worshipped: Angels are servants of God and should not be worshipped.Worship should be directed solely to God, not to angels or any other beings.
-Revelation 19:10,"And I fell at his feet to worship him.But he said to me,"See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant..."
• Angels always see the face of God:The closeness of angels to God, suggests their high status in the heavenly realm and their intimate connection to God's will.
-Matthew 18:10,"For I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My father who is in heaven."
• Angels obey God's word:Angels heed the voice of God's word and carry out His directives faithfully.
-Psalm 103:20,"Bless the Lord,you His angels,who excel in strength,who do His word,Heeding the voice of His word."
• Angels are ninistering spirits: Angels serve God's purposes by ministering to and assisting believers.
-Mark 1:13,"And the angels ministered to Him."
-Hebrews 1:14,"Are they not ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit the salvation?
• Angels worship God Together:Angels stand around God's throne,worshipping Him.
-Revelation 7:11,"All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures,and fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God."
• Angels bring Information and Understanding:Angels help people understand God's will and visions.
-Daniel 9:22,"O Danieal,I have come forth to give you skill to understand."
-Luke 1:19,"Who stands in the presence of God,was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings."
• Angels do not marry.
-Matthew 22:30,"For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage,but are like angels of God in heaven."
• Angels can assume human-like form and eat.
-Genesis 18:2,"So he lifted his eyes and looked,and behold,three men standing by him..."So he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared,and set it
before them;and he stood by them
under the tree as they ate."
TYPES OF ANGELS
• Messenger Angels: They deliver God's messages physically or through dreams. This is one of the most prominent roles angels play in the Bible, often appearing to announce God's will, as in the case of Mary’s annunciation (Luke 1:26) or Joseph’s dream (Matthew 2:13)
-Matthew 2:13,"Behold,an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream,saying, "Arise,take the young Child and His mother,flee to Egypt. "
-Luke 1:26-27,"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,to a Virgin.....The virgin's name was Mary."
• Angels of Wisdom:They possess knowledge of everything on earth or insight into earthly matters(2 Samuel 14:20).
-2 Samuel 14:20,"But my Lord is wise, according to the wisdom of the angel of God,to know everything that is in the earth.
• Angels of Destruction: These angels serve as instruments of judgment, carrying out God's wrath, and executing divine justice.(2 Samuel 24:16; 1 Chronicles 21:15).
-2 Samuel 24:16,"And when the angel stretched out His hand over Jerusalem to destroy it,the Lord relented from the destruction..."
-1 Chronicles 21:15,"And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it."
• Devilish Angels:These are fallen angels, commonly known as demons or evil spirits, who serve Satan.
-Matthew 25:41,"Then He will also say to those on the left hand,depart from me,you cursed,into the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels. "
• Angels of Direction: Angels help direct God's people in the right way, acting as guides to fulfill God's plan. (Acts 7:53; Exodus 23:20).
-Acts 7:53,"Who have received the law by the direction of a angels and have not kept it."
-Exodus 23:20,"Behold,I send an angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. "
• Angels of Separation:These angels will separate the wicked from among the just.
-Matthew 13:49,"So it will be at the end of the age.The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just."
• Killer Angels: These angels carry out divine destruction, especially in times of war or judgment.
-2 Kings 19:35,"And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out,and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty five thousand;and when people arose early in the morning,there were the corpses-all dead."
• Angels of Liberation: These angels can intervene to help God's people escape physical and spiritual bondage.
-Acts 5:19,"But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out.."
• Angels of Deliverance:These are angels who deliver those who fear the Lord. These angels serve as protectors, guarding the faithful from harm.
-Psalm 34:7,"The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear the Him,and delivers them."
• Holy Angels: These angels represent the purity and holiness of God's kingdom.They will accompany Jesus in His return in glory.
-Matthew 25:31,"When the son of man comes in His glory,and all the Holy angels with Him,then He will sit on the throne of His glory."
• Guardian Angels
The Bible teaches that God assigns angels to watch over people.
- Matthew 18:10 – “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.”
- Psalm 91:11 – “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.”
Guardian angels are believed to protect, guide, and watch over individuals throughout their lives.
• Helper Angels
Angels assist believers and carry out God’s instructions.
- Psalm 34:7 – “The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, and delivers them.”
NAMES OF ANGELS
○ Angel Gabriel – Messenger of God
• He serves as a messenger delivering important messages from God to humanity(Luke 1:19;Luke 1:26)
-Luke 1:19,"And the angel answered and said to him,I am Gabriel."
• He serves as an interpreter of visions and prophecies(Danieal 8:16;Danieal 9:21)
-Daniel 8:16,"Gabriel,make this man understand the vision.
-Daniel 9:21,"Yes,while I was speaking in prayer,the man Gabriel,whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning,being caused to fly swiftly....."
• Gabriel announced the births of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ.
Luke 1:26–28 – “The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth…”
○ Angel Michael – The Warrior Angel
Michael is one of the few angels clearly named in the Bible. He is described as a powerful defender of God’s people.
• He is the protector who stands up for God's people during times of great distress(Danieal 12:1).
-Danieal 12:1,"At that time Michael shall stand up,The great prince which stands watch over the sons of your people..."
• He is a spiritual warfare leader,assisting other angels and engaging in warfare against opposing forces(Danieal 10:13).
-Danieal 10:13,"And behold,Michael,one of the chief princes,came to help me."
• He is the defender against evil,leading the angels in a battle against Satan and his angels(Revelation 12:7)
-Revelation 12:7,"And war broke out in heaven:Michael and his angels fought with the dragon."
-Jude 1:9 – “Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil…”
○ Lucifer or Fallen angel.
• He was cast down from heaven because of pride.
-Isaiah 14:12,"How are you fallen from heaven,O Lucifer,son of the morning!
-Isaiah 14:13,"For you have said in your heart:I will ascend into heave,I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
-Isaiah 14:14,"I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,I will be like the Most High."
○ Angel Abaddon or Apollyon.
• He is the angel of the bottomless pit.
-Revelation 9:11,"And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit,whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon,but in Greek he has the name Apollyon."
○ Angel Ariel
Ariel is associated in some traditions with nature, protection of the earth, and divine strength. The name appears in Scripture as a symbolic name for Jerusalem.
-Isaiah 29:1," Woe to Ariel,to Ariel,the city where David dwelt..."
-Isaiah 29:7 – “And the multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel… shall be as a dream of a night vision.”
○ Azrael – The Angel of Death (Traditional Belief)
In some Jewish and Islamic traditions, Azrael is described as the angel responsible for receiving the souls of the dead. The Bible itself does not mention the name Azrael, but it does speak about angels involved in judgment or death.

○ Angel Raphael
Raphael is known as an angel of healing in ancient Jewish writings, especially in the Book of Tobit.
Raphael is associated with:
Healing and deliverance from suffering.
Related Biblical verse
-Jeremiah 30:17 – “For I will restore health to you and heal your wounds, says the Lord.”
Although Raphael’s name is not in the Protestant Bible, many traditions still associate him with God’s healing work.
○ Angel Jophiel (Traditional Belief)
In some traditions, Jophiel is associated with wisdom, beauty, and enlightenment. The name means “Beauty of God.”
Although the name Jophiel does not appear directly in the Bible, Scripture teaches that wisdom and enlightenment come from God.
-James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God…”
PROOF OF THE EXISTENCE OF ANGELS (Biblical Evidence)
The Bible contains many accounts showing that angels are real spiritual beings.
1. Angels appeared to Abraham
Genesis 18:1–2 – Abraham saw three men (angels) visiting him.
2. Angels protected Daniel
Daniel 6:22 – “My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths.”
3. Angels ministered to Jesus
Matthew 4:11 – “Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”
4. Angels announced the birth of Jesus
Luke 2:10–13 – Angels appeared to shepherds praising God.
5. Angels freed apostles from prison
Acts 5:19 – “An angel of the Lord opened the prison doors.”
THE ROLE OF ANGELS IN OUR LIVES
• Revelation and Guidance:Angels show God's servants the things which will take place and provide insights into future events.
-Revelation 22:6,"And the Lord God of the Holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place."
• Protection:They protect believers and do not accuse them,before the Lord.
-2 Peter 2:11,"Angels,who are greater in power and might,do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord."
• Spiritual Warfare: Angels engage in spiritual battles on behalf of believers.
-Revelation 12:7,"And war broke out in heaven:Michael and his angels fought with the dragon."
• Communication:They can deliver messages through dreams or directly inspire speech.
-Matthew 1:20,"Behold,an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream."
-Numbers 22:35,"Then the angel of the Lord said to Balaam."
• Evangelism: They can preach the everlasting gospel to people who dwell on earth, reaching various nations tribes and race.
-Revelation 14:6,"Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven,having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on earth to every nation,tribe,tongue, and people."
• Joy and Encouragement: They bring good news and joy, serving to uplift believers .
-Luke 2:10,"Then the angel said to them,"Do not be afraid,for behold,I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people."
• Gathering the elect: Angels will gather God’s people, both in the present and at the end of time.
-Matthew 24:31,"And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds,from one end of heaven to the other."
• Directional guidance: They can guide believers to the right paths in life.
-Exodus 23:20,"Behold,I send an angel before you to keep you in the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. "
• Surround and deliver God’s children: Angels surround and deliver God’s children from harm and affliction.
-Psalm 34:7,"The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him,And delivers them.
- Isaiah 63:9,"And the angel of His presence saved them."
• Understanding and Insight: They provide understanding and clarity regarding visions and revelations.
-Daniel 9:22,"And He informed me ,and talked with me,and said," O Danieal,I have now come forth to give you skill to understand."
PRAYERS
1.O Lord, I ask that You send legions of Your mighty angels to fight on my behalf, beginning from the very foundation of my life. Let their divine strength overcome every challenge and opposition I face, in the powerful name of Jesus.
2. Heavenly Father, I petition You to send angels of healing to restore my body, mind, and soul to perfect health. May Your divine touch flow through me, bringing complete healing and wholeness, in the name of Jesus.
3. O Lord, I call upon You to send Your angels of blessing to pour out abundant blessings upon my life. May every area of my existence be touched by Your divine favor, in the mighty name of Jesus.
4. Father, I ask that You release angels of judgment to go forth and destroy the works of Satan and every agent of destruction that seeks to harm my life. May they bring an end to all evil plots against me, in Jesus’ name.
5. Angels of destruction, I command you in the name of Jesus to dismantle and destroy every hidden enemy and every secret force working against my destiny,in Jesus' name.
6.O angels of liberation, I call on you today to break every chain and destroy every bondage that has held me captive. Bring me into the freedom and fullness of life that Christ has purchased for me, in the name of Jesus.
7.Father, I ask that You send angelic messengers to deliver swift messages of guidance, wisdom, and direction to me through visions and dreams. May I receive them with clarity and understanding, in the name of Jesus.
8. Angels of separation, I pray that you will remove me from every wrong relationship and association that hinders my growth and purpose. Separate me from all individuals and influences that are detrimental to my life, in the name of Jesus.
9.O Lord, send Your angels of direction to guide my every step and decision. Let them lead me down paths of righteousness, ensuring that I never stray from Your divine will, in the name of Jesus.
10.Lord Jesus, send your angels to go forth to drive away every enemy and every agent of destruction that has been assigned to harm me. Let their plans be thwarted, and let Your protection surround me, in Jesus' name.
11. Angels of God, I commission you today to disrupt and disorganize all the works and plans of the kingdom of darkness against my life. Let every plot of evil be rendered null and void, in the mighty name of Jesus.
12.Heavenly Father, I stand on Your promises and declare that Your angels will guard and protect me in all my ways. Surround me with their divine presence and ensure that no harm comes near me, in the name of Jesus.
13.O God, I pray for Your angels to hold back any harm or danger that seeks to come against me. Seal me and all that concerns me with Your protection and Your divine covering, in Jesus' name.
14.Almighty Father, may Your angels, who excel in strength, respond to Your word and come to my aid. I ask for their assistance in every area of my life, that I may walk in victory and peace, in the name of Jesus.
15. Lord, may Your messages come to me clearly, that I may hear and obey Your voice. Grant me the wisdom to recognize Your guidance and the courage to follow it wherever You lead, in Jesus' name.
16.Father, I ask that You grant me clarity and understanding of Your revelations. Open my heart and mind to receive Your truths and lead me in the paths of righteousness, in the name of Jesus.
17. O Lord, I thank You for sending Your angels as ministering spirits to serve and assist me. Help me to recognize their presence and to be ever mindful of their support as I walk through each day, in Jesus' name.
18. Father,may Your angels deliver wisdom and clarity, and may they direct my every step in accordance with Your perfect will, in the name of Jesus.
19.Lord, I stand on Your promise that Your angels encamp around me, protecting me from all harm. I ask that they will shield me from every attack and fill me with peace that surpasses all understanding, in Jesus' name.
20. Gracious God, thank You for the angelic presence that surrounds and supports me. I am forever grateful for Your protection, Your guidance, and Your heavenly assistance, in the powerful name of Jesus.
