Sermon:Weapons of Spiritual Warfare
○Spiritual warfare is the ongoing battle in the spiritual realm, primarily involving believers standing firm in the victory that Christ has already achieved over the forces of evil. It’s about resisting the Devil's schemes, using the armor of God, and enforcing Christ’s triumph in our lives.
○Spiritual warfare refers to the conflict between believers and spiritual forces, including the devil and his agents. It's a struggle against supernatural forces that operate in the spiritual realm.
- Ephesians 6:12,"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,but against principalities and powers,against the rulers of the darkness of this age,against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. "
○ Spiritual warfare means triumphing over spiritual powers through Christ' death and resurrection, disarming them and displaying their defeat.
-Colossians 2:15,"Having disarmed principalities and powers,He made a public spectacle of them,triumphing over them in it."
○Spiritual warfare involves resisting the devil's attempts to enslave believers.
-Hebrews 2:14-15,"He himself likewise shared in the same,that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death,that is,the devil,and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage."
In spiritual warfare, believers are called to live in the victory that Christ has already won over these forces, enforcing that victory in their lives.
SATAN'S WEAPONS OF WARFARE
Satan employs various weapons of warfare against God's children, targeting their health, finances, children, careers, and marriages. His goal is to hinder or prevent them from fulfilling their life's purposes on earth.
○Carnal weapons: The carnal weapons are the tools that appeal to human nature and lead people into sin, including pride, greed, and lust. Satan often uses worldly methods such as temptation, deceit, and the fostering of sinful desires to lead believers astray.Carnal weapons are not just about sinful passions but also include worldly systems like materialism, consumerism, and corrupt ideologies that distract from God’s will.
-2 Corinthians 10:4,"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. "
○Evil and demonic spirits: Evil spirits and demonic influences can deceive, oppress, or possess individuals. They aim to lead people away from truth and bind them to sinful practices.These spirits work to create confusion, division, and false beliefs, leading people to worship false gods or embrace heretical teachings.The Bible instructs us to test all spirits to see if they are from God in 1 John 4:1.
-1 John 4:1,"Beloved,do not believe every spirit,but test the spirits,whether they are of God."
○Sicknesses and sinful lifestyles: Sickness can be a form of oppression that Satan uses to hinder people.Sin can also lead to physical or mental suffering (e.g., the consequences of destructive behaviors or addictions)
Not every sickness is directly caused by spiritual forces,some are natural occurrences.However, believers are called to pray for healing and stand against sickness through faith in God’s power.
-Psalm 103:2-3"Bless the Lord,O my soul,and forget not all His benefits:who forgives all your iniquities,who heals all your diseases. "
○Enslavement to sin: Sin has an enslaving nature.Satan uses this enslavement to keep people from fulfilling their purposes in God.Sin has a binding effect, leading individuals into cycles of behavior that they cannot easily break free from without God's intervention.Satan works to keep people in the bondage of sin, but believers have authority through Christ to overcome sin.
-John 8:34,"Whoever commits sin is a slave of sin."
○Demonic armies: Satan may use both spiritual forces and human systems or authorities to attack believers.
◇Satan often works through earthly forces like enemies of God's people to wage spiritual warfare.
-1 Samuel 28:1,"Now it happened in those days that the Philistines gathered their armies together for war,to fight with Israel."
◇ Satan has principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness, which refer to demonic forces in the spiritual realm working against believers.
-Ephesians 6:12,"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,but against principalities and powers,against the rulers of the darkness of this age,against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. "
BELIEVERS WEAPONS OF WARFARE
□The Armor of God:(Ephesians 6:13-17) This includes the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit ,which is the Word of God.
◇Belt of Truth: This represents honesty and integrity.
◇Breastplate of Righteousness:Guards the heart, symbolizing living rightly according to God’s standards.
◇Shoes of the Gospel of Peace: The readiness to share the peace of the gospel and stand firm in it.
◇Shield of Faith: Quenches all the fiery darts of the enemy.
◇Helmet of Salvation: Protects the mind and thoughts, reminding believers of their salvation in Christ.
◇Sword of the Spirit: The word of God, which is used to fight back against lies and deception, just as Jesus did during His temptation.
□Prayer:Believers are encouraged to pray without ceasing and with perseverance, seeking God's help and guidance.Prayer connects believers with God’s power and authority, allowing them to stand against the enemy.
-1 Thessalonians 5:17,"Pray without ceasing.
-Luke 18:1-8,"Men always ought to pray and not lose heart. "
-Ephesians 6:18,"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. "
□Faith: Faith in Jesus Christ and His victory over evil is crucial in overcoming the devil.
◇Faith is a powerful weapon and acts as a shield to extinguish the enemy’s fiery darts.
-Ephesians 6:16,"Above all,taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one."
◇Faith is the firm foundation on which the believer can overcome when facing spiritual attacks.
-1 John 5:4,"For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith."
□Resisting the Devil:(James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8-9): Actively resisting the devil through steadfast faith and vigilance can lead to him fleeing from you.Active resistance involves standing firm in faith, knowing who you are in Christ, and not giving in to temptation or fear.
-James 4:7,"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
-1 Peter 5:8-9,"Be sober,be vigilant;because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion,seeking whom He may devour. Resist him,steadfast in the faith..."
□The word of God: Using Scripture, is a powerful tool against deception and temptation.
-Ephesians 6:17,"And sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
-Matthew 4:1-11,"Jesus resists Satan’s temptations with Scriptures.
◇The word of God is living and active,and it cuts through deception and lies, reminding the believer of God’s promises and truth.
-Hebrews 4:12,"For the word of God is living and powerful,and sharper than any two-edged sword,piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,and of joints and marrow,and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
□Praise and worship: Praise and worship invite God’s presence, strengthen the believer’s faith, and confuse the enemy. Worship shifts the focus from the enemy's attacks to God’s sovereignty, providing both spiritual fortification and divine intervention.
-2 Chronicles 21:22,"Now when they began to sing and to praise,the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon,Moab,and mount spiritual,who had come against Judah;and they were defeated."
□The Name of Jesus: There is power in the name of Jesus, and invoking His name is a powerful weapon against the enemy.
-Acts 16:18,"But Paul greatly annoyed ,turned and said to the spirit,I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her."
-Philippians 2:9-10,"Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,of those in heaven,and of those on earth,and of those under the earth,and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the father."
□The Blood of Jesus:Believers overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.
-Revelation 12:11,"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. "
DISCERNING SPIRITUAL ATTACKS
□Persistent Negative Thoughts and Doubts.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You may experience a barrage of negative thoughts, such as doubt, fear, anxiety, or confusion, often without clear cause. These thoughts may include feelings of unworthiness, self-condemnation, or thoughts that God doesn't care.
-2 Corinthians 10:5,"Bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
□Constant Emotional or Mental Fatigue.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You may feel an overwhelming sense of weariness, depression, or emotional exhaustion that doesn't seem to have a natural explanation. It can also include feelings of hopelessness or apathy toward spiritual things.
-Isaiah 40:29,"He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength."
□Struggles in Relationships.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: Tension, misunderstandings, arguments, or division may arise in your relationships, especially with those you are closest to. The enemy often seeks to sow discord, bitterness, and anger, aiming to destroy unity in the body of Christ.
-James 3:16,"For where envy and self-seeking exist,confusion and every evil thing are there."
□Physical Afflictions or unexplained Health Problems.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: Spiritual attacks can sometimes manifest in physical ailments, especially when they are persistent or unusual. e.g. A woman who had been bent over for 18 years due to a spirit of infirmity. (Luke 18:11-16)
□Unusual or Intense Temptation
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You may feel more vulnerable to temptation than usual, especially in areas of your life where you have previously been strong.
-1 Peter 5:9,"Resist him,steadfast in the faith,knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your Brotherhood in the world. "
□A Sense of God's absence or Spiritual dryness.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You might feel disconnected from God, as if your prayers are not reaching Him, or there’s a sense of spiritual dryness. This can cause feelings of isolation, even though you know God is always near.
-Psalm 22:1,"My God,my God,why have you forsaken me?Why are you so far from helping me,and from the words of my groaning?
-Psalm 42:11,"Why are you cast down,O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
□Sudden or Unexplained Fear and Anxiety.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You may experience an overwhelming sense of fear or anxiety that seems disproportionate to any real threat or problem in your life.
-2 Timothy 1:7,"For God has not given us a spirit of fear,but of power and of love and of a sound me."
□Unusual Spiritual Blockages.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You may find it difficult to pray, read the Bible, or engage in spiritual activities. It can feel like something is actively hindering your connection with God or preventing you from growing spiritually.
-Daniel 10:12-14,"Do not fear,Daniel,for from the first day that you set your heart to understand,and to humble yourself before your God,your words were heard,and I have come because of your words.But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days..."
□A Sense of Oppression or Heaviness.
◇Signs of spiritual attack: You may feel a sense of oppression or heaviness, almost as if a dark cloud is hanging over you. This can lead to feelings of despair, hopelessness, or discouragement.
-Luke 4:18,"He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted...and to set at liberty those who are oppressed. "
-Isaiah 61:3,"To give beauty for ashes,the oil of joy for mourning,the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness..."
HOW TO RESPOND TO SPIRITUAL ATTACKS
○Trust fully in the Lord of hosts.
-Psalm 20:7,"Some trust in chariots,and some in horses;But we will remember the name of the Lord our God."
○Do not rely on other creations or human strength.
-Isaiah 31:1,"And rely on horses,who trust in chariots because they are many....But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel,nor seek the Lord!
○Face your enemies without fear.
-Deuteronomy 20:1,"When you go out to battle against your enemies,and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you,do not be afraid of them;for the Lord your God is with you."
○Do not depend on physical strength for spiritual warfare.
-Psalm 33:16,"A mighty man is not delivered by great strength."
○Destroy known satanic weapons and let God handle the rest.
-Psalm 76:3,"There he broke the arrows of the bow,the shield and sword of battle."
○Prepare for the day of battle.
-Proverbs 21:31,"The horse is prepared for the day of battle..."
○Recognize that only Almighty God can end wars to the ends of the earth.
-Psalm 46:9,"He makes wars cease to the end of the earth."
○Recognize that the Lord can shatter the bow and sword of battle from the earth.
-Hosea 2:18,"Bow and sword of battle I will shatter from the earth,"
○Ask the Lord to raise intercessors for you and sustain your righteousness.
-Isaiah 59:16,"He saw that there was no man,and wondered that there was no intercessor."
○Destroy all instruments of death prepared against you and your family in Jesus’ name.
-Psalm 7:13,"He also prepares for himself instruments of death."
○Confess your sins and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
-1 John 1:9,"If we confess our sins,He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. "
○Plead with God not to remove His protection.
-Isaiah 22:8,"He removed the protection of Judah."
○Put on the armor of light to destroy all works of darkness.
-Romans 13:12,"Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness,and let us put on the armor of light."
○Ask the Lord to make you His battle-axe and weapon of warfare.
-Jeremiah 51:20,"You are my battle-ax and weapons of war."
○Hope only in the God of salvation.
-1 Thessalonians 5:8,"But let us who are of the day be sober,putting on the breastplate of faith and love,and as a helmet the hope of salvation. "
○Take Up God’s Armor to withstand evil days.
-Ephesians 6:13,"Therefore take up the whole armor of God,that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,and having done all,to stand."
○Be sanctified and honourable in God's sight by abstaining from immorality and living a life of holiness.
-1 Thessalonians 4:3,"For this is the will of God,your sanctification :that you should abstain from sexual immorality. "
○Be filled with the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
-2 Peter 1:8,"For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. "
○Pray fervently without ceasing.
- James 5:16,"The effective,fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
○Receive the free gift of healing outpoured from the Lord Almighty.
- Isaiah 53:5,"By His stripes we are healed."
○Fight a good warfare with faith and good conscience so that you will be delivered from Satan.
-1 Timothy 1:18-20,"That by them you may wage the good warfare,having faith and a good conscience,which some having rejected,concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck.....Whom I have delivered to Satan."
○Live a sin-free life to limit your life's battles
-Ecclesiastes 9:18,"Wisdom is better than weapons of war;But one sinner destroys much good."
○Use the Lord's weapons of indignation to fight against satanic agents.
-Isaiah 13:5,"The Lord and His weapons of indignation,To destroy the whole land."
○Do not fight the enemy with physical or man-made weapons.
-John 18:3,"Then Judas,having received a detachment of troops...came there with lanterns,torches,and weapons."
○Ask the Lord to fight for you,He can do all thing.
-Jeremiah 21:4-5"Behold,I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands....I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm,even in anger and fury and great wrath. "
○Arise and fight your own life's battles and spiritual warfare.
-Deuteronomy 1:41"We have sinned against the Lord,we will go up and fight? Just as the Lord our God commanded us."
○Do not be seen in places where there is an ongoing warfare,do not stay within range to be killed
-2 Kings 11:8,"But you shall surround the King on all sides,every man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever comes within range let him be put to death."
○Be equipped for warfare at all times
-1 Chronicles 12:23,"Now these were the numbers of the divisions that were equipped for war..."
○Know that you have a God who can help you fight all your battles.
-2 Chronicles 32:8,"With him is an arm of flesh ;but with us is the Lord our God to help us and fight our battles. "
○Always arm yourself with a weapon to fight against Satan.
-2 Chronicles 23:10,"Then he set all the people,every man with his weapon in his hand..."
○Prepare your own weapons of warfare,that makes you distinguishable from others.
-1 Samuel 8:12,"He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties....and some to make His weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. "
○Fight against Satan in the name of the Lord of hosts.
-1 Samuel 17:45,"You come to me with a sword,with a spear,and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts,the God of the armies of Israel ,whom you have defied."
○Know that God doesn't save with man-made weapons and farming tools.
-1 Samuel 17:47," Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear;for the battle is the Lord’s. "
○Ask the Lord to raise a defense for you.
-Ezekiel 26:8,"He will slay with the sword your daughter villages in the fields;...build a wall against you,and raise a defense against you."
PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Father, we confess that we have sinned against You and humbly seek Your forgiveness. Deliver us from our sinful nature and empower us to be instruments in winning souls for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
PRAYERS
1.Lord, pour out Your fury and great wrath upon all satanic forces waging war against me, in the mighty name of Jesus.
2. By the stripes of Jesus, I am healed from every hidden sickness, and I declare my complete healing in Jesus’ name.
3. I bind and cast out the spirit of sexual immorality from my life, in the name of Jesus.
4. Lord Jesus, empower me to fight a good fight of faith and to emerge victorious, never to be a casualty in any spiritual battle, in Jesus’ name.
5. I declare that my warfare is over, for God Himself will fight all my battles, in the name of Jesus.
6. I command all satanic weapons used against me to perish, in the mighty name of Jesus.
7.I destroy the strange men armed with weapons who stand at the gates, blocking my blessings, in Jesus' name.
8.I command all satanic troops sent against me to scatter and never regroup, in the name of Jesus.
9. I destroy every force and every destroyer targeting my blessings and miracles, in the name of Jesus.
10. I cast into the fire every satanic weapon used against me from childhood, in the name of Jesus.
11.Lord, arm me with Your mighty weapons of warfare to fight and overcome all my enemies, in Jesus’ name.
12. Lord Jesus, send forth Your angels of destruction to swiftly destroy all satanic operations in and around my life, in Jesus’ name.
13.Father, use me as Your battle-axe to break into pieces all Satanic or demonic barriers, in Jesus' name.
14. Lord, open Your heavenly armory and unleash weapons of indignation to destroy every work of Satan in my life, in Jesus’ name.
15. Lord Jesus, destroy all satanic weapons waged against me, in the mighty name of Jesus.
16. I set on fire every weapon used by Satan to wage war against me, in the name of Jesus.
17.Fire of God, burn down all carved images, household idols, and molded images used to attack me spiritually, in Jesus' name.
18. Let every instrument of cruelty used by Satan to fight against me catch fire, in Jesus' name.
19. I command every burden placed upon my life from birth to be destroyed, in the name of Jesus.
20.Father, help me to use my God-given weapons of warfare effectively in the spiritual realm, in Jesus’ name.
