Sermon: Forms Of Bondages

WHAT ARE BONDAGES?

▪︎Bondages refer to any spiritual, emotional, or physical constraint that limits an individual's freedom, behavior, or potential. 
▪︎Bondages are forms of captivity or oppression that can hinder a person’s relationship with God and their overall well-being.

▪︎Bondages often involve an element of control or influence, such as sinful habits, negative thought patterns, or unhealthy attachments, which can trap individuals and prevent them from living a fully liberated and purposeful life in alignment with God's plan.

CAN A CHRISTIAN BE IN BONDAGE?Yes,a christian can experience various forms of bondage,they can experience temptation, sin, and struggle.

□ Christians can fall into patterns of sin that entangle them, leading to spiritual bondage. This is especially true when believers yield to temptation or continue in sin, which can create a sense of separation from God and hinder spiritual growth.

-Romans 6:12,"Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body ,that you should obey it in its lusts."

- Galatians 5:1,"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

□Christians are not exempt from temptation, and even though they are saved, they can still struggle with sinful tendencies or habits. These temptations can lead to spiritual captivity if not resisted.

-Romans 6:16,"Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey,you are that one's slaves whom you obey..."

-Ephesians 2:1-3,"And you He made alive,who were dead in trespasses and sins,in which you once walked according to the course of this world.."

□Emotional struggles such as fear, anxiety, unforgiveness, or past trauma can affect a Christian’s peace and spiritual growth. The Bible encourages believers to cast their anxieties on God and not let emotional turmoil hinder their relationship with Him -

-Hebrews 12:1,"Therefore we also,since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,let us lay aside every weight,and the sin which so easily ensnares us."

-2 Timothy 1:7,"For God has not given us a spirit of fear,but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

□Christians can face physical limitations, illness, or suffering, which can feel like a form of bondage.These struggles can be challenging and require faith, endurance, and reliance on God's strength.

-James 5:14-15,"Is anyone among you sick?Let him call for the elders of the church,and let them pray over him,anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.And the prayer of faith will save the sick.."

- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10,"Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities,that the power of Christ may rest upon me."Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities,in reproaches,in needs,in persecutions,in distresses,for Christ's sake.."

FORMS OF BONDAGES 

●Spiritual bondage:It refers to the condition of being trapped in sin, unbelief, or separation from God. It often involves a lack of spiritual freedom due to sin or demonic influences. 

◇Spiritual bondage through sin creates a barrier between individuals and God,
 -Isaiah 59:2,“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear."

◇Spiritual bondage can involve both sin and demonic oppression. Jesus mission is to free those held captive by spiritual forces.

-Luke 4:18:“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives…” 
●Emotional bondage: It refers to the struggles with fear, anxiety, guilt, and other negative emotions that can enslave individuals and prevent them from experiencing peace and joy.

◇God provides the strength to overcome emotional turmoil.
-2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and self-control.” 

◇Emotional bondage can come from feeling guilty or ashamed, which can be released through faith in Christ.
-Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,who do not walk according to the flesh,but according to the spirit."
●Physical bondage: It encompasses situations of oppression,addiction, illness, or any physical limitations that can affect one's life and ability to serve God.

◇Physical ailments can be addressed through prayer and faith.
-James 5:14-15, “Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick…” 

◇Addictive behaviors or habits can be overcome through spiritual warfare and reliance on God.
 - 2 Corinthians 10:4 , “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty on God for pulling down strongholds.” 

HOW TO COME OUT OF BONDAGES

●Repentance and Confession. Acknowledging and turning away from sin is vital in breaking spiritual bondage. When we confess our sins and genuinely repent, God is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

-1 John 1:9 - “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

●Prayer and Fasting: Seeking God through prayer and fasting gives strength and clarity, especially for challenging situations that require deeper intervention. Certain strongholds can only be overcome through praying and fasting. 

-Mark 9:29,“This kind can only come out by prayer and fasting."

▪︎Renewing the Mind:Transformation begins with the mind. Changing our thoughts and beliefs aligns us with God’s truth, helping to break free from emotional and spiritual bondage.

-Romans 12:2,“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind…”

●Reading and meditating on the Scripture: The word of God strengthens faith and reveals truth that brings freedom. Constant meditation on Scripture builds spiritual resilience.

-John 8:31-32 , “If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

●Using Spiritual Authority: Believers have spiritual authority in Christ to resist the devil and break free from his influence. By submitting to God and standing firm in His power, we can overcome spiritual bondage.

 -James 4:7, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

●Worship and Praise: Worship creates an atmosphere of peace, freedom, and joy. It lifts burdens and aligns the believer’s heart with God’s will, providing an environment for spiritual liberation.

-Psalm 100:4 ,“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

FACTS ABOUT BONDAGES ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

□Believers should consider themselves dead to sin. The crucifixion of Jesus frees them from the bondage of sin, implying that through faith, they are no longer slaves to sin but are set free.

-Romans 6:6-7,"Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him,that the body of sin might be done away with,that we should no longer be slaves of sin.For he who has died has been freed from sin."
□Christians do not receive a spirit of bondage but rather the Spirit of adoption. 

-Romans 8:15,"For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear,but you received the spirit of adoption.."
□No one can bring a charge against God's elect, indicating that believers are free from condemnation.

-Romans 8:33,"Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? 
□Believers can fall into spiritual bondage through the snares of the devil and need liberation from the devil’s trap.

-2 Timothy 2:26,"And that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil,having been taken captive by him to do his will."
□Jesus came to free those who were enslaved by the fear of death. He came to liberate those who were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

-Hebrews 2:15,"And release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. "
□Christians can be entangled in sin again or brought into bondage after knowing the truth. 

-2 Peter 2:19,"While they promise them liberty,they themselves are slaves of corruption;for by whom a person is overcome,by him also he is brought into bondage. "

□Believers have been set free from sin,and have become slaves to righteousness.

-Romans 6:18,"And having been set free from sin,you become slaves of righteousness. "
□Sin can lead to spiritual bondage, even among those who might be involved in ministry or the church.

-Acts 8:23,"For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity. "

□Believers can face hard bondage and suffering.There is need for liberation from bondage through Jesus Christ.

-Exodus 1:14,"And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage.....All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor."
□God is the one who redeems from the house of bondage.It is important to remain faithful to God to avoid spiritual bondage.

-Deuteronomy 13:5,"Because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the Lord your God,who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage."
□God gives relief from sorrow, fear and hard bondage.

-Isaiah 14:3,"It shall come to pass in the day the Lord gives you rest from your sorrow,and from your fear and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve.
□Being sold under sin, indicates  an internal struggle with sin that can lead to bondage. 

-Romans 7:14,"For we know that the law is spiritual,but I am carnal,sold under sin."
□We were under spiritual bondage under the elements of the world until Christ set us free.

-Galatians 4:3-4,"Even so we,when we were children,were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come,God sent forth His son ...to redeem those who were under the law,that we might receive the adoption as sons."

□Physical ailments can also be a form of bondage influenced by spiritual oppression.

-Luke 13:16,"So ought not this woman,being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound-think of it-for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond..."
□Transgressions can keep one in bondage.

-Hosea 10:10,"Peoples shall be gathered against them when I bind them for their two transgressions."
□If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Christ can liberate you from all forms of bondage.

-John 8:36,"Therefore if the son makes you free,you shall be free indeed."
□Believers should stand firm in their liberty.Christ has set us free from bondage; do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

-Galatians 5:1,"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free,and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

PRAYER
1.I declare, in the name of Jesus, that every yoke of bondage in my life is destroyed. I break free from all forms of captivity and oppression, and I claim my freedom by the power of Christ,in Jesus' name.

2. I decree that I will not be a slave to sin. I reject all sinful habits and negative patterns in my life,in the name of Jesus.

3.Heavenly Father, I embrace my true identity as Your beloved child. I reject the spirit of fear and insecurity, and I accept the spirit of adoption that You have graciously given me. I declare that I am no longer a stranger but a co-heir with Christ, in the name of Jesus.

4. Father, I ask for Your divine rest from all forms of oppression, heavy burdens, and the weight of sin. I receive Your peace and rest in every area of my life,in Jesus' name.

5. God, I thank You for the assurance that no accusation, no matter how strong, can stand against me, for I am justified and declared righteous through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ,in Jesus name.

6. Father, I lift up those who are in bondage to fear, anxiety, and despair. May they experience the liberty and freedom You offer through Christ. Set them free from the chains of fear and bring them into your peace , in the mighty name of Jesus.

7. Father, I cry out to You for deliverance. Rescue me from every form of bondage, whether emotional, mental, or spiritual.,in the name of Jesus.

8.O Lord, by Your mighty hand, deliver me from the house of bondage. Bring me out of every place where I have been held captive, and lead me into the fullness of the freedom You have promised, in the name of Jesus.

9. God, I thank You for setting me free from the power of sin. I ask that You empower me to live as a servant of righteousness, bringing glory to Your name,in the name of Jesus.

10.I break free from every form of bondage that has been influenced by spiritual oppression. I stand against all demonic forces that seek to bind me and declare that I am free by the authority of Christ,in Jesus' name.

11. Thank You, Lord, for Your truth, which sets me free from every bondage and oppression. I receive Your word into my heart, and I declare that it will continue to guide me into the freedom and victory You have already given me, in the name of Jesus.

12.Father, grant me relief from sorrow, fear, and the hard burdens that weigh me down.I release all worries and fears into Your loving hands, and I receive Your healing and comfort,in Jesus' name.

13. I declare that I will enjoy the liberty that is mine in Christ Jesus. I will walk in the freedom He has purchased for me, and I will not allow any bondage to entangle me again,in Jesus’ name.

14.Lord, I ask that You awaken those who are ensnared in error. Open their eyes to the truth of Your word, so they may be set free from the snare of the devil and walk in the freedom that comes through knowing Christ, in the name of Jesus.

15.I break free from any bondages that have been passed down through my family line. I declare that every generational curse is broken, and I am set free from all inherited spiritual chains,in Jesus' name.

16.Lord Jesus, help me to keep my mind and heart fixed on You, not conforming to the patterns and pressures of this world.I ask that You strengthen me to resist any temptation to be bound by the standards of the world, in the name of Jesus.

17.Father, I lay before You every burden that weighs me down. Deliver me from all heaviness and lead me into Your lightness and peace,in Jesus’ name.

18.Father, I ask that You set me free wherever I have been bound—whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually. I declare, by the authority of Jesus Christ, that I am released and made whole in every area of my life.

19. Thank You, Lord, for the freedom I have in Christ. May I never again be burdened by the yoke of slavery to sin or oppression,in Jesus name.

20. I decree that I will not be brought into bondage by the powers of darkness.I stand firm against all demonic schemes and declare that I am free to fulfill my destiny in Christ,in Jesus' name.
