Sermon:Overcoming Fear
Introduction:Fear is a natural emotional response to perceived danger.Fear is a powerful and often paralyzing emotion that touches every human life. It can stem from real threats or imagined dangers, and it often distorts our thinking, clouds our judgment, and hinders our faith. While fear can sometimes serve a protective function, too often it becomes a tool the enemy uses to limit our potential and silence our purpose. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that fear does not come from God. He has not given us a spirit of fear, but instead, He offers us power, love, and a sound mind.
Healthy(Protective) Fear vs Unhealthy (Paralyzing) Fear.
●Healthy (Protective) Fear: A natural, God-given response to danger that prompts caution, awareness, or action. It encourages reverence (e.g., fear of God), humility, and trust in God’s guidance.
Purpose: To protect and preserve life.
Effect: Motivates wise decisions and preparedness.
Examples:
◇Avoiding harmful situations or substances.
◇Studying for an exam to avoid failure.
●Unhealthy (Paralyzing) Fear: An excessive or irrational fear that prevents progress, growth, or trust. It opposes faith, peace, and the sound mind God gives.
Purpose: Rooted in anxiety, trauma, or lies; often used by the enemy to hinder purpose.
Effect: Immobilizes, discourages, and causes avoidance or withdrawal.
Examples:
◇Fear of failure stopping you from trying.
◇Fear of rejection keeping you isolated.
◇Fear of the unknown preventing spiritual growth.
