Sermon: The Blessings Of God

Opening Scripture: James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
God is the source of every good and perfect thing in our lives. When we pause and consider our journey—our salvation, our daily provision, our families, our peace of mind—we realize we are walking testimonies of God's blessings.

What does It mean to be blessed?
But what exactly are the blessings of God?
Are they merely material things?
Or is there something deeper?
To be blessed in a biblical sense is more than just having money, success, or comfort. In Scripture, the word "blessed" (Hebrew: barak / Greek: makarios) often means:
• To be favored by God
• To live in alignment with God's will
• To walk in joy, peace, and spiritual abundance
• To be empowered to prosper—spiritually, emotionally, and physically
So, to be blessed is to live a life that is touched, shaped, and guided by the hand of God. It is to live under His favor, grace, and provision.

What are the True Blessings of God in our Lives?
○The Blessing of Salvation.
Romans 4:7,“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.”
The greatest blessing is eternal life through Jesus Christ. We were lost, but He found us. We were condemned, but now we are redeemed. This is not just a ticket to heaven; it’s a new identity, a new hope, and a new beginning.
○The Blessing of God’s Presence.
Psalm 16:11,“In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
We are never alone. God walks with us through the fire, the storm, and the valley. His presence is a blessing that gives us courage, peace, and direction.
○The Blessing of Peace.
Philippians 4:7,“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
In a world full of stress, chaos, and anxiety, God gives His children supernatural peace. This is not the peace the world gives—it is deeper, stronger, and more sustaining.
○The Blessing of Provision.
Philippians 4:19,“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
God knows what you need before you ask. He is Jehovah Jireh—The Lord Who Provides. Whether it's food, finances, strength, or wisdom—He is faithful.
○The Blessing of Purpose.
Ephesians 2:10,“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
You are not an accident. God has a plan and purpose for your life. One of His greatest blessings is to give your life meaning—to serve, to build, to love, to lead.
○The Blessing of Grace.
Grace is unmerited favor—God giving us what we don’t deserve.
It is by grace we are saved and continue to grow in our faith (Ephesians 2:8)
Grace empowers us to live godly lives and to overcome sin.
○The Blessing of Mercy.
Mercy is God withholding the punishment we do deserve.
Lamentations 3:22-23 says His mercies are new every morning.
Because of His mercy, we are not consumed, even when we fall short..
○The Blessing of Good Health.
Health is a blessing many take for granted until it's gone.
God sustains our bodies and gives wisdom for rest, healing, and care.
Psalm 103:3: “...Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.”
○The Blessing of Relationships and Resources.
Family, friendships, church community—these are blessings that help us thrive.
God also gives us the resources—jobs, talents, and opportunities—to grow and be fruitful.
While these blessings are temporary, they are signs of God’s care and faithfulness in our daily lives.
○Emotional and mental Blessings.
Philippians 4:6-7,“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Life is filled with emotional and mental challenges—but God provides inner blessings that sustain us in the storm.
◇The blessing of Joy.
Joy is deeper than happiness—it comes from the presence of God (Psalm 16:11).
It’s a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22).
Even in trials, we can have joy, knowing God is at work (James 1:2-3).
◇The blessing of Hope.
Romans 15:13 calls God the “God of hope.”
Hope in Christ gives us strength to keep moving forward, even when things look dark.
Hebrews 6:19 says hope is an anchor for the soul.
These emotional and mental blessings are supernatural gifts from God that help us endure, rejoice, and remain stable in a chaotic world.

The Purpose of God’s Blessings
God doesn’t bless us just for our own benefit. He blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others.
Genesis 12:2,“I will bless you… and you shall be a blessing.”
You are blessed to:
• Encourage the weary
• Give to the needy
• Serve in love
• Share the Gospel
• Make a difference

The Risks of Taking God's Blessings for Granted
Deuteronomy 8:11-14 warns us clearly:,“Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God... when you have eaten and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down... and your heart becomes proud and you forget the Lord your God...”
In times of abundance, it’s easy to slip into complacency. We may begin to feel self-sufficient, attributing our success to our own efforts rather than recognizing God's provision. This leads to pride, spiritual neglect, and ultimately a drifting away from God.
Here are some blessings we often take for granted:
• Waking up this morning – A gift, not a guarantee.
• The ability to pray and worship freely – A privilege many around the world still lack.
• Friends and family – God places people in our lives for support, joy, and love.
• A sound mind – Peace of mind is a blessing from God, not to be overlooked.
When we forget the source, we lose perspective—and risk losing the very blessings we’ve been given.

How to Cultivate Gratitude
Gratitude is the antidote to forgetfulness. It reorients our hearts back to God, reminding us that every good and perfect gift comes from Him (James 1:17).

Ways to cultivate gratitude:
• Start your day with thanks – Before reaching for your phone, thank God for breath and life.
• Keep a gratitude journal – Write down three things each day that you're thankful for.
• Pray with thanksgiving – Let your prayers be filled not just with requests but with praise.
• Share your blessings – Generosity keeps gratitude alive.
• Reflect on your past – Remember where God brought you from.
Gratitude opens your eyes to what you already have and keeps your heart humble and grounded in God's goodness.

Conclusion: Live in the Blessing
God’s blessings cover every area of life—spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental. They come from a loving Father who never changes. When we recognize and appreciate these blessings, our faith is strengthened, our hearts are filled with gratitude, and our lives become testimonies of His goodness.
✝ Let’s remember:
• We are blessed to be a blessing (Genesis 12:2).
• Gratitude activates our awareness of God’s blessings.
• Faith unlocks the flow of God’s continuous grace.
 • God’s blessings are constant—not because of who we are, but because of who He is.
James 1:17 reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes from Him. His love, goodness, and generosity are not seasonal—they are eternal.
So how do we live in His blessing?
• Stay connected to God in prayer and His word.
• Bless others.
• Walk in obedience.
• Live with gratitude.
