Sermon: Who are your enemies?

Text: Psalm 27:2–3,“When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.”

INTRODUCTION
Every believer must understand this truth: the presence of enemies does not mean the absence of God’s favor — often, it is a sign of divine promotion. The Bible never hides the reality of enemies; rather, it teaches us how to identify, overcome, and triumph over them.
In this message, we will uncover the various forms of enemies and see how God grants total deliverance to those who trust in Him.

WHO ARE YOUR ENEMIES?
Enemies are forces, people, or powers that oppose your progress, peace, and purpose. They may not always wear a label; some smile by day but strike by night. But thank God — “The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face” (Deuteronomy 28:7).

FORMS OF ENEMIES
• Mortal Enemies
These are enemies bent on total destruction — physical or spiritual. (1 Samuel 18:29; Exodus 1:16).
→ Example: Pharaoh was a mortal enemy of Israel.
→ But God buried him in the Red Sea!
• Deadly Enemies
Enemies whose actions or words bring death to dreams, health, or destiny. (Psalm 17:9).
→ David cried: “Deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword.”
• Sworn Enemies
Those who take a stand against your life or progress — no matter what. (Nehemiah 4:1-11).
→ Sanballat and Tobiah were sworn enemies of Nehemiah’s rebuilding work.
• Strong Enemies
They appear powerful, resourceful, and intimidating. (Psalm 18:17).
→ But David said, “He delivered me from my strong enemy.”
• Formidable Enemies
Enemies with influence, power, and alliances. (2 Chronicles 20:1–30).
→ Jehoshaphat faced a formidable alliance — yet God turned their swords against themselves.
• Known and Unknown Enemies
Some enemies reveal themselves; others hide behind deceit. (Matthew 26:14–16).
→ Judas was a known disciple but an unknown betrayer.
• Secret / Sneaky Enemies
They operate in darkness — gossipers, backstabbers, or spiritual agents. (Psalm 64:2–4).
→ “Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked.”
• Spiritual and Physical Enemies
Not all battles are human — many are spiritual. (Ephesians 6:12).
→ “We wrestle not against flesh and blood…”
• Household Enemies
These are enemies within your own circle — family, friends, or colleagues. (Micah 7:6; Matthew 10:36).
→ Jesus said, “A man’s foes shall be they of his own household.”
• Visible and Invisible Enemies
Some you can see, others operate behind the scenes. (2 Kings 6:17–18).
→ Elisha prayed for his servant to see that those with them were greater than those against them.
• Great and Mighty Enemies
Enemies who appear too big to defeat. (Joshua 11:4–8).
→ God said, “Fear them not, for tomorrow I will deliver them up slain before Israel.”
• Powerful and Dangerous Enemies
Armed with influence, weapons, or authority. (Daniel 6:4–24).
→ Daniel’s enemies were powerful — but the lions turned against them.
• Evil and Wicked Enemies
Driven by pure malice and hatred. (Psalm 140:1–2).
→ “Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men.”
•Influential Enemies
Those with social or political power who use it for harm. (Esther 3:1–6).
→ Haman’s influence could not stop God’s favor upon Mordecai.
